Octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTMS) is an organosilicon compound. This colorless liquid is used for preparing hydrophobic coatings and self-assembled monolayers. It is sensitive toward water, irreversibly degrading to a siloxane polymer. It places a C₁₈H₃₉SiO₃ "cap" on oxide surfaces. The formation of OTMS monolayers is used for converting hydrophilic surfaces to hydrophobic surfaces, e.g. for use in certain areas of nanotechnology and analytical chemistry.

The invention discloses a preparation method of a super-hydrophobic silicon dioxide film. The method comprises the steps: SiO2 powder with super-hydrophobicity is obtained by surface modification; an electrophoretic technique is adopted to deposit the SiO2 powder on a metal matrix to obtain the super-hydrophobic SiO2 film. The electrophoresis matrix mainly comprises galvanized steel, aluminium, magnesium, titanium and alloy thereof. The super-hydrophobic SiO2 powder is obtained by hydrolysis condensation reaction of nanoscale SiO2 powder and long chain organosilane such as dodecyltrimethoxysilane, hexadecyltrimethoxysilane, octadecyltrimethoxysilane or chlorine and fluorine hydrophobic silane such as octadecyltrichlorosilane and total fluorine octyl trimethoxy silane under an alkaline condition. An electrophoretic liquid consists of acetone or alcohol, water, modified super-hydrophobic SiO2 powder and resin binder. The super-hydrophobic film which is prepared by the method is mainly used for aspects such as metal protection, self-cleaning and surface water mist icing prevention. The method has the advantages that the operation is simple; the cost is relatively low; the condition is mild; and the method is expected to be applied to industrial production on a large scale.

The preparation method comprises the following steps: dipping commercial melamine sponge into a suspension solution of octadecyltrimethoxysilane-modified boron nitride, and then conducting drying to obtain the modified super-hydrophobic sponge. The silanized boron nitride modified super-hydrophobic sponge obtained by the invention shows better super-hydrophobicity, the oiladsorption capacity of the silanized boron nitride modified super-hydrophobic sponge is 50-100 times that of commercial melamine sponge, and after 20 continuous absorption periods, the absorption performance is not obviously reduced, and it is indicated that the silanized boron nitride modified sponge has remarkable recyclability. The prepared modified super-hydrophobic sponge has excellent flameretardant property. Compared with a traditional method that the super-hydrophobic coating is physically attached to the sponge, the stability of the silanized boron nitride modified sponge is remarkably improved due to covalent binding of alkyl silane and the surface of the framework.
