772 results about "Intumescent" patented technology

An intumescent is a substance that swells as a result of heat exposure, thus increasing in volume and decreasing in density. Intumescents are typically used in passive fire protection and require listing, approval and compliance in their installed configurations in order to comply with the national building codes and laws.

Intumescent, flame retardant pressure sensitive adhesive composition for EMI shielding applications

A flame retardant, intumescent pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) composition for EMI shielding gaskets, tapes, wraps, and the like. The composition is formulated as an admixture of: (a) a PSA component; (b) a halogenated first flame retardant component; (c) a metal-based second flame retardant component; and (d) a filler component of expandable, intercalated graphite particles. In a representative embodiment the PSA component (a) is acrylic-based, the halogenated first flame retardant component (b) is a polybrominated diphenyl compound such as decabromodiphenyl oxide or decabromodiphenyl ether, the metal oxide-based second flame retardant component (c) is antimony oxide, antimony trioxide, or antimony pentoxide, and the filler component (d) is graphite flake.

Self-closing vent

A self-closing vent has its frame and honeycomb screen coated with an intumescent material. When affixed to an external wall or eave of a building, the vent is normally open, allowing free flow of air into and out of the building, but when exposed to the heat of a fire, such as a wildfire, the intumescent expands to close the vent, thereby preventing an external fire from entering the building.

Fire retardant panel door and door frame having intumescent materials therein

A fire retardant panel door and door frame that prevents the spread of fire through the door during a fire. The fire retardant panel door has at least one door panel and stiles and rails. The door panel includes an interior center composite section formed by a first plurality of layers of intumescent materials and a first plurality of layers of fire resistant materials disposed between and laminated to a pair of outer sections formed of wood for enclosing the interior center composite section to form a composite laminated door panel. Each of the stiles includes a first center core formed of wood enclosed by a second plurality of layers of intumescent materials and a second plurality of layers of fire resistant materials; and the second layers of intumescent and fire resistant materials are enclosed by a first applique layer formed of wood to form a composite laminated stile. Each of the rails includes a second center core formed of wood enclosed by a third plurality of layers of intumescent materials and a third plurality of layers of fire resistant materials; and the third layers of intumescent and fire resistant materials are enclosed by a second applique layer formed of wood to form a composite laminated rail. The first, second, and third plurality of layers of intumescent materials are activated to expand upon exposure to heat and/or fire to prevent the heat and/or fire from passing through at least one door panel, the stiles and the rails of the panel door during a fire for at least 90 minutes. At least one door panel is connected to the panel door by tongue and groove joints; and the tongue and groove joints have a fourth plurality of layers of intumescent materials and a fourth plurality of layers of fire resistant materials in the tongue and groove joints; and wherein the fourth plurality of layers of fire resistant materials in the tongue and groove joints are activated to expand upon exposure to heat and/or fire to seal the joints in order to prevent the heat and/or fire from passing through the panel door during a fire for at least 90 minutes.

Composite flame retardant containing microcapsule-coated intumescent flame retardant and preparation method

The invention belongs to the field of flame retardant materials, and particularly relates to a composite flame retardant containing a microcapsule-coated intumescent flame retardant and a preparation method. The composite flame retardant containing the microcapsule-coated intumescent flame retardant consists of the following components in percentage by mass: 60-94 percent of microcapsule intumescent flame retardant, 5-25 percent of flame-retardant synergist, 0.9-10 percent of smoke suppressant and 0.1-5 percent of hindered amine light stabilizer. The preparation method comprises the following steps: preparing the microcapsule-coated intumescent flame retardant; placing the microcapsule-coated intumescent flame retardant, the flame-retardant synergist, the smoke suppressant and the hindered amine light stabilizer into a high-speed mixer for mixing uniformly, and discharging to obtain the composite flame retardant containing the microcapsule-coated intumescent flame retardant. Multiple components in the composite flame retardant can play roles in retarding flame in a synergetic way, so that the flame retardance of a high polymer material is improved remarkably, the production of toxic and harmful smog in a burning process can be suppressed, and the flame retarding efficiency is increased greatly.

Fire-resistant silicone polymer compositions

A fire resistant composition comprising: a silicone polymer; mica in an amount of from 5% to 30% by weight based on the total weight of the composition; and a limited amount of glass additive sufficient to enable the formation of a self supporting ceramic material at temperatures above the decomposition temperature of the silicone polymer and below the fire rating temperature of the composition. The glass additive addition required to produce the self supporting ceramic material has been found to be preferably from 0.3% to 8% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The composition is applicable to products formed for fire wall linings, fire partitions, screens, ceilings or linings, structural fire protection, fire door inserts, window or door seals, intumescent seals, in electrical switchboard cabinets or cables. In one cable application, the composition may be used as the extruded intermediate material (2) between the conductor (3) and extruded sheath (4).
