Star-shaped polymers are the simplest class of branched polymers with a general structure consisting of several (at least three) linear chains connected to a central core. The core, or the center, of the polymer can be an atom, molecule, or macromolecule; the chains, or "arms", consist of variable-length organic chains. Star-shaped polymers in which the arms are all equivalent in length and structure are considered homogeneous, and ones with variable lengths and structures are considered heterogeneous.

Stable nano gold sol synthesized by one-step method in aqueous phase with star polymer

The invention relates to a novel method for preparing a high stable nano-gold sol under the condition of aqueous phase by one step. In the method, the aqueous solution of polymethacrylic acid 2-dimethylamino acetate star-shaped polymer is mixed with the aqueous solution of chloroauric acid for reacting at room temperature and the high stable nano-gold sol is obtained. This invention is an improvement in standard polymerizations procedures, i.e., addition-type and step-growth type polymerizations, wherein momomers are reacted to form a growing polymer chain. The improvement includes employing an effective amount of a trifunctional monomer (such as a trifunctional amine, anhydride, or phenol) in the polymerization procedure to form a mixture of polymeric materials consisting of branced polymers, star-shaped polymers, and linear polymers.
