Method and apparatus for non-invasive blood constituent monitoring

A system for determining a biologic constituent including hematocrit transcutaneously, noninvasively and continuously. A finger clip assembly includes including at least a pair of emitters and a photodiode in appropriate alignment to enable operation in either a transmissive mode or a reflectance mode. At least one predetermined wavelength of light is passed onto or through body tissues such as a finger, earlobe, or scalp, etc. and attenuation of light at that wavelength is detected. Likewise, the change in blood flow is determined by various techniques including optical, pressure, piezo and strain gage methods. Mathematical manipulation of the detected values compensates for the effects of body tissue and fluid and determines the hematocrit value. If an additional wavelength of light is used which attenuates light substantially differently by oxyhemoglobin and reduced hemoglobin, then the blood oxygen saturation value, independent of hematocrit may be determined. Further, if an additional wavelength of light is used which greatly attenuates light due to bilirubin (440 nm) or glucose (1060 nm), then the bilirubin or glucose value may also be determined. Also how to determine the hematocrit with a two step DC analysis technique is provided. Then a pulse wave is not required, so this method may be utilized in states of low blood pressure or low blood flow.

Conformal nanolaminate dielectric deposition and etch back gap fill process

Conformal nanolaminate dielectric deposition and etch back processes that can fill high aspect ratio (typically at least 5:1, for example 6:1), narrow width (typically sub 0.13 micron, for example 0.1 micron or less) gaps with significantly reduced incidence of voids or weak spots involve the use of any suitable confirmal dielectric deposition technique and a dry etch back. The etch back part of the process involves a single step or an integrated multi-step (for example, two-step) procedure including an anisotropic dry etch followed by an isotropic dry etch. The all dry deposition and etch back process in a single tool increases throughput and reduces handling of wafers resulting in more efficient and higher quality nanolaminate dielectric gap fill operations.

Method for etching a trench having rounded top and bottom corners in a silicon substrate

The present invention provides straight forward methods for plasma etching a trench having rounded top corners, or rounded bottom corners, or both in a silicon substrate. A first method for creating a rounded top corner on the etched silicon trench comprises etching both an overlying silicon oxide layer and an upper portion of the silicon substrate during a "break-through" step which immediately precedes the step in which the silicon trench is etched. The plasma feed gas for the break-through step comprises carbon and fluorine. In this method, the photoresist layer used to pattern the etch stack is preferably not removed prior to the break-through etching step. Subsequent to the break-through step, a trench is etched to a desired depth in the silicon substrate using a different plasma feed gas composition. A second method for creating a rounded top corner on the etched silicon trench comprises formation of a built-up extension on the sidewall of an overlying patterned silicon nitride hard mask during etch (break-through) of a silicon oxide adhesion layer which lies between the hard mask and a silicone substrate. The built-up extension upon the silicon nitride sidewall acts as a sacrificial masking material during etch of the silicon trench, delaying etching of the silicon at the outer edges of the top of the trench. This permits completion of trench etching with delayed etching of the top corner of the trench and provides a more gentle rounding (increased radius) at the top corners of the trench. During the etching of the silicon trench to its final dimensions, it is desirable to round the bottom corners of the finished silicon trench. We have discovered that a more rounded bottom trench corner is obtained using a two-step silicon etch process where the second step of the process is carried out at a higher process chamber pressure than the first step.

System for audible feedback for touch screen displays

What is presented is a system and method by which a visually impaired worker could easily and quickly navigate menu options on touch screen displays. An Audible Feedback ON / OFF Switch is provided which turns the audible feedback feature of the present invention on or off. The software monitoring which row / column areas of the touch screen's display grid have been touched by the user in response to a menu option selection is made switchable into one of two modes. A first mode is when the audible feedback feature is OFF or otherwise disabled. In this mode the software operates the touch screen's menu selections in the normal manner in which the machine is intended to perform. When a user selects an option, the option is immediately activated whether it be a machine activity or a jump to another level of menus. A second mode is when the audible feedback feature has been turned ON or otherwise activated. In this mode a two step process is activated such that when a user makes a first touch of a menu option a sound or voice is audibly played indicating the nature of the particular menu option just selected. A second consecutive touch of the same menu option then actually activates the machine activity associated with that particular menu option.

System and method for distance measurement by inphase and quadrature signals in a radio system

A system and a method for distance measurement utilizes a radio system. The distance is measured by determining the time it takes a pulse train to travel from a first radio transceiver to a second radio transceiver and then from the second radio transceiver back to the first radio transceiver. The actual measurement is a two step process. In the first step, the distance is measured in coarse resolution, and in the second step, the distance is measured in fine resolution. A first pulse train is transmitted using a transmit time base from the first radio transceiver. The first pulse train is received at a second radio transceiver. The second radio transceiver synchronizes its time base with the first pulse train before transmitting a second pulse train back to the first radio transceiver, which then synchronizes a receive time base with the second pulse train. The time delay between the transmit time base and the receive time base can then be determined. The time delay indicates the total time of flight of the first and second pulse trains. The time delay comprises coarse and fine distance attributes. The coarse distance between the first and second radio transceivers is determined. The coarse distance represents the distance between the first and second radio transceivers in coarse resolution. An in phase (I) signal and a quadrature (Q) signal are produced from the time delay to determine the fine distance attribute. The fine distance indicates the distance between the first and second transceivers in fine resolution. The distance between the first and second radio transceivers is then determined from the coarse distance and the fine distance attributes.

System and method for automatically generating a narrative report of an event, such as a sporting event

An automatic report generator provides a narrative account of a newsworthy happening such as an sporting event by using templates. The game events are retrieved from storage and various statistics are generated from the game log and from past game logs. A template is selected for report generation in a two step process. First, conditional criteria associated with a template are compared to the game statistics to determine whether the template matches the game. In a second step, the remaining candidate templates are subjected to a weighting analysis by which the template providing the most detailed description, or describing the most relevant events of the game is selected. Once selected, game specific information is inserted into the template through the use of functions calls that request game specific data from the game log or from the game statistics generator.

Method and mobile station to perform the initial cell search in time slotted systems

A method is disclosed that a Mobile Station MS performs at switch-on to search the most favorable target cell in UMTS systems like the 3GPP CDMA—LCR (Low Chip Rate) option at 1.28 Mcps—TDD (Time Division Duplex) mode and the equivalent TD-SCDMA (Time Division—Synchronous CDMA). Signal at the MS antenna is the sum of different RF downlink frames coming from different carriers in the assigned frequency ranges. A DL synchronization timeslot and a BCCH TS0 are both transmitted with full power in the frames, the first one includes one out of 32 SYNC codes assigned on cell basis. Following a conventional approach the absence of a common downlink pilot and without prior knowledge of the used frequencies would force the MS, for all the frequencies of the channel raster stored in the SIM card, the correlation of the received frame with all the 32 SYNCs stored in the MS, in order to detect the BSIC of a cell to which associate the power measures. Following the two-step method of the invention the power measures are performed in two-step scan of the PLMN band without interleaved correlation steps; once a final frequency is selected the respective frame is the only correlated one. At least one frame duration about 5 ms long of the whole 15 MHz bandwidth is acquired, IF converted, A / D converted and the digital set is stored. A rough scan is performed multiplying the digital set by a digital IF tuned in steps wide as the channel band (1.6 MHz) along the 15 MHz band, and filtering the baseband signal with a Root Raise Cosine low-pass filter. The 5 ms baseband signal is subdivided into 15 blocks of half timeslot (337.5 μs) and the power of each block is measured. The power of the strongest block indicates the priority of the respective frequency. The strongest power values are put in a Spectral Table together with respective frame load indicators. The load indicator is the percentage of timeslots in a frame almost equally loaded as the strongest block. The three strongest frequencies are selected for the successive scan. The second step search is performed like the first one but the IF steps are now 200 kHz wide and cover the only 1.6 MHz spectrum around a selected frequency. A final frequency is selected for the successive correlation step. Then the frequency error of the MS reference oscillator is corrected with data-aided techniques and a calibration value stored for successive connections (FIG. 9).

Moving object detecting and tracing method in complex scene

The present invention discloses method for moving target detection and tracking in a complex scene. The method comprises two steps of multiple moving target detection and multiple moving target tracking: in the multiple moving target detection, a background model based on self adapting nonparametric kernel density estimation is established with the aim at the monitoring of the complex scene, therefore the disturbance of the movement of tiny objects can be effectively suppressed, the target shadow is eliminated, and the multiple moving target is detected; in the multiple moving target tracking, the target model is established, the moving state of the target is confirmed through ''matching matrix'', and corresponding tracking strategy is adopted according to the different movement condition of the target. Target information is ''recovered'' through the probabilistic reasoning method, and the target screening degree of the target is analyzed with the aim at the problem that multiple targets screen mutually. The algorithm of the present invention can well realize the moving target tracking, obtains the trace of the moving target, and has good real time and ability of adapting to the environmental variation. The present invention has wide application range and high accuracy, therefore being a core method for intelligent vision monitoring with versatility.

Full-field three-dimensional measurement method

A method and system for full-field fringe-projection for 3-D surface-geometry measurement, referred to as “triangular-pattern phase-shifting” is disclosed. A triangular grey-scale-level-coded fringe pattern is computer generated, projected along a first direction onto an object or scene surface and distorted according to the surface geometry. The 3-D coordinates of points on the surface are calculated by triangulation from distorted triangular fringe-pattern images acquired by a CCD camera along a second direction and a triangular-shape intensity-ratio distribution is obtained from calculation of the captured distorted triangular fringe-pattern images. Removal of the triangular shape of the intensity ratio over each pattern pitch generates a wrapped intensity-ratio distribution obtained by removing the discontinuity of the wrapped image with a modified unwrapping method. Intensity ratio-to-height conversion is used to reconstruct the 3-D surface coordinates of the object. Intensity-ratio error compensation involves estimating intensity-ratio error in a simulation of the measurement process with both real and ideal captured triangular-pattern images obtained from real and ideal gamma non-linearity functions. A look-up table relating the measure intensity-ratio to the corresponding intensity-ratio error is constructed and used for intensity-ratio error compensation. The inventive system is based on two-step phase-shifting but can be extended for multiple-step phase-shifting.

Method of universal file access for a heterogeneous computing environment

An architecture and system are described that provide a unified file access service within in a managed computing environment composed of diverse networks, computing devices, and storage devices. The service provides mechanisms for remotely accessing the file systems of any managed computer or disk snapshot, independently of the computer's current state (powered on, suspended or powered off), its location within the environment, its hardware type (virtual vs. physical), its operating system type, and its file system formats. The system isolates centralized FPAs from the details of clients, proxies and storage elements by providing a service that decomposes offloaded file system access into two steps. A FPA or a requester acting on behalf of the FPA first expresses the disk set or the computer containing the file systems it wishes to access, along with requirements and preferences about the access method. The service figures out an efficient data path satisfying the FPA's needs; and then automatically configures a set of storage and computing resources to provide the data path. The service then replies with information about the resources and instructions for using them. The FPA then accesses the requested file systems using the returned information.

Refractory metal capped low resistivity metal conductor lines and vias formed using PVD and CVD

Capping a low resistivity metal conductor line or via with a refractory metal allows for effectively using chemical-mechanical polishing techniques because the hard, reduced wear, properties of the refractory metal do not scratch, corrode, or smear during chemical-mechanical polishing. Conductive lines and vias are created using a combination of both physical vapor deposition (e.g., evaporation or collimated sputtering) of a low resistivity metal or alloy followed by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of a refractory metal and subsequent planarization. Altering a ratio of SiH4 to WF6 during application of the refractory metal cap by CVD allows for controlled incorporation of silicon into the tungsten capping layer. Collimated sputtering allows for creating a refractory metal liner in an opening in a dielectric which is suitable as a diffusion barrier to copper based metalizations as well as CVD tungsten. Ideally, for faster diffusing metals like copper, liners are created by a two step collimated sputtering process wherein a first layer is deposited under relatively low vacuum pressure where directional deposition dominates (e.g., below 1 mTorr) and a second layer is deposited under relatively high vacuum pressure where scattering deposition dominates (e.g., above 1 mTorr). For refractory metals like CVD tungsten, the liner can be created in one step using collimated sputtering at higher vacuum pressures.
