A local-neighborhood Laplacian Eigenmap (LNLE) algorithm is provided for methods and systems for semi-supervised learning on manifolds of data points in a high-dimensional space. In one embodiment, an LNLE based method includes building an adjacency graph over a dataset of labelled and unlabelled points. The adjacency graph is then used for finding a set of local neighbors with respect to an unlabelled data point to be classified. An eigen decomposition of the local subgraph provides a smooth function over the subgraph. The smooth function can be evaluated and based on the function evaluation the unclassified data point can be labelled. In one embodiment, a transductive inference (TI) algorithmic approach is provided. In another embodiment, a semi-supervised inductive inference (SSII) algorithmic approach is provided for classification of subsequent data points. A confidence determination can be provided based on a number of labeled data points within the local neighborhood. Experimental results comparing LNLE and simple LE approaches are presented.

The present invention relates to the design and implementation of a three stage computer-aided screening system that analyzes fundus images with varying illumination and fields of view, and generates a severity grade for diabetic retinopathy (DR) using machine learning. In the first stage, bright and red regions are extracted from the fundus image. An optic disc has similar structural appearance as bright lesions, and the blood vessel regions have similar pixel intensity properties as the red lesions. Hence, the region corresponding to the optic disc is removed from the bright regions and the regions corresponding to the blood vessels are removed from the red regions. This leads to an image containing bright candidate regions and another image containing red candidate regions. In the second stage, the bright and red candidate regions are subjected to two-step hierarchical classification. In the first step, bright and red lesion regions are separated from non-lesion regions. In the second step, the classified bright lesion regions are further classified as hard exudates or cotton-wool spots, while the classified red lesion regions are further classified as hemorrhages and micro-aneurysms. In the third stage, the numbers of bright and red lesions per image are combined to generate a DR severity grade. Such a system will help in reducing the number of patients requiring manual assessment, and will be critical in prioritizing eye-care delivery measures for patients with highest DR severity.

The invention discloses an anti-saturation PID (Proportion Integration Differentiation) control method for a motor speed regulation system. An integral predictor is added into a common PID controller; when an executor is saturated, the integral state predictor utilizes an error e of a control command value and a system output value, a differential value of the error and a limiter output value together to calculate a stable-state integral state value; and after the stable-state integral state value is processed by a low pass filter, integral items are reset. The method can be used for effectively inhibiting the integral saturation phenomenon, so that the controller can obtain smaller overshooting and shorter desaturation time in the case of saturation.
