Electric treatment system

A treatment tool for performing a treatment for a curative procedure with ultrasonic waves, high frequency current and so on is provided with an identifier formed of a resistor or the like for indicating the type of the treatment tool. A medical instrument such as an ultrasonic wave output apparatus discriminates the type of a treatment tool connected thereto from the identifier to automatically set operating parameters such as an output value suitable for the treatment tool and to associatively operate an ancillary medical instrument such as a perfusion / aspiration apparatus depending on the treatment tool, thereby reducing extra work such as manual setting to allow for a smooth treatment.

Minimally invasive surgical training using robotics and tele-collaboration

A medical system that allows a mentor to teach a pupil how to use a robotically controlled medical instrument. The system may include a first handle that can be controlled by a mentor to move the medical instrument. The system may further have a second handle that can be moved by a pupil to control the same instrument. Deviations between movement of the handles by the mentor and the pupil can be provided as force feedback to the pupil and mentor handles. The force feedback pushes the pupil's hand to correspond with the mentor's handle movement. The force feedback will also push the mentor's hand to provide information to the mentor on pupil's movements. The mentor is thus able to guide the pupil's hands through force feedback of the pupil handles to teach the pupil how to use the system.

Provisioning and controlling medical instruments using wireless data communication

This invention teaches a method of automating some of the tasks requiring continuous data collection at the patient bedside in a hospital in a manner which significantly reduces the chances of error in providing treatment. These tasks include provisioning of the IV pumps or other fluid infusion pumps, feed pumps, oxygen delivery systems, gathering, recording, storing, and analyzing signals from ECG machine or pulse oxymeter or any other medical device. This invention teaches the use of wireless transceiver modules which are connected to the data ports on the medical instrument to gather the data and transmit the data to a wireless access point. Protocols to identify the patient, care provider, medicine, equipment, and treatment are described. Use of an external means for verifying the identity of the medical device and the medicine is also described.

System, method and devices for navigated flexible endoscopy

The invention provides a method and system for performing an image-guided endoscopic medical procedure. The invention may include registering image-space coordinates of a path of a medical instrument within the anatomy of a patient to patient-space coordinates of the path of the medical instrument within the anatomy of the patient. In some embodiments, the image space coordinates of the path of the medical instrument may be predicted coordinates such as, for example, a calculated centerline through a conduit-like organ, or a calculated “most likely path” of the medical instrument within the anatomy of the patient. In other embodiments, the path of the medical instrument may be an actual path determined using intra-operative images of the patient's anatomy with the medical instrument inserted therein. The registered instrument may then be navigated to one or more items of interest for performance of the endoscopic medical procedure.
