A video detection and monitoring method and apparatus utilizes an application-specific object based segmentation and recognition system for locating and tracking an object of interest within a number of sequential frames of data collected by a video camera or similar device. One embodiment includes a background modeling and object segmentation module to isolate from a current frame at least one segment of the current frame containing a possible object of interest, and a classification module adapted to determine whether or not any segment of the output from the background modeling apparatus includes an object of interest and to characterize any such segment as an object segment. An object segment tracking apparatus is adapted to track the location within a current frame of any object segment and to determine a projected location of the object segment in a subsequent frame.

This invention teaches a method of automating some of the tasks requiring continuous data collection at the patient bedside in a hospital in a manner which significantly reduces the chances of error in providing treatment. Methods and systems of continuously optimizing data in WiFi positioning systems. A location-based services system for WiFi-enabled devices calculates the position of WiFi-enabled devices. A WiFi-enabled device communicates with WiFi access points within range of the WiFi-enabled device so that observed WiFi access points identify themselves. A reference database is accessed to obtain information specifying a recorded location for each observed WiFi access point. The recorded location information for each of the observed WiFi access points is used in conjunction with predefined rules to determine whether an observed WiFi access point should be included or excluded from a set of WiFi access points. The recorded location information of only the WiFi access points included in the set are used and the recorded location information of the excluded WiFi access points are excluded when calculating the geographical position of the WiFi-enabled device.

Circuits and methods for providing zero-gap playback of consecutive data streams in portable electronic devices, such as media players, are described. In some embodiments, a circuit includes a decoder circuit configured to receive encoded audio data and to output decoded audio data including data streams associated with a data file and a subsequent data file. Moreover, a predictive circuit, which is electrically coupled to the decoder circuit, is configured to selectively generate additional samples based on samples in the data file, where the additional samples correspond to times after the end of a data stream associated with the data file. Additionally, a filter circuit, which is electrically coupled to the decoder circuit and selectively electrically coupled to the predictive circuit, is configured to selectively combine or blend samples at a beginning of the subsequent data file with the additional samples. Note that the circuit may be included in an integrated circuit.

A system matches frame counter values between a timing master and one or more slave devices in a synchronous network. To detect synchronization losses, a timing master counts transmitted frames of a continuous data stream. Data relating to mass and energy transfer within the process is collected and is reconciled with the mass and energy characteristics of the process predicted by the model.
