Brokering state information and identity among user agents, origin servers, and proxies

Methods, signals, devices, and systems are provided for using proxy servers to transparently forward messages between clients and origin servers if, and only if doing so does not violate network policies. In some systems, a transparent proxy uses a combination of standard-format HTTP commands, embedding auxiliary information in URLs and other tools and techniques to redirect an initial client request to one or more policy modules, such as a login server or an identity broker or an access control server. The policy module authenticates the request, and uses HTTP redirection to have the client transmit authorization data to the proxy. The proxy extracts the authorization data, directs the client to use a corresponding cookie, and subsequently provides the implicitly requested proxy services to the client in response to the client's subsequently providing the authorization data in a cookie. This is accomplished without requiring installation of any invention-specific software or hardware on either the client or the origin server, and also works with proxy servers that are known to the client. Unless the client request violates network policy, a person using the client will generally perceive no reduction of services, and will instead benefit from the proxy's caching and / or other performance enhancements.

Cooperative intrusion detection ecosystem for IP reputation-based security

An intrusion detection system (IDS) is enhanced to operate in a cluster of such systems, and IDSs organized into a cluster cooperate to exchange IP reputation influencing events information between or among the cooperating systems in real-time to enhance overall system response time and to prevent otherwise hidden attacks from damaging network resources. An IDS includes an IP reputation analytics engine to analyze new and existing events, correlate information, and to raise potential alerts. The IP reputation analytics engines may implement an algorithm, such as a pattern matching algorithm, a continuous data mining algorithm, or the like, to facilitate this operation. Clustering IDS endpoints to share IP reputation influencing events, using the cluster-wide view to determine IP reputation, and feeding the cluster-wide view back to the IDS endpoints, provides for enhanced and early detection of threats that is much more reliable and scalable as compared to prior art techniques.

Web content adaption process and system

A web content adaptation process and system is described which allows for the automated production of different versions of web content with reference to a set of intended display device characteristics, and for the adapted content versions to be saved such that they can then be provided to a requesting user at a later date if required. Adaptation is performed by analysing the content of the original web content, and then applying a sequence of transformations in order to the content. After each transformation has been applied an evaluation is undertaken to determine if the transformed content is suitable for the intended display device.

Diesel aftertreatment systems

A method and a system for improving conversion efficiency of a urea-based SCR catalyst coupled downstream of a diesel or other lean burn engine is presented. The system includes an electrically heated vaporizer unit into which a mixture of reductant and air in injected. The mixture is vaporized in the unit and introduced into the exhaust gas prior to its entering the SCR catalyst. Introducing the reductant mixed with air into the reductant delivery system prevents lacquering and soot deposits on the heated element housed inside the unit, and also speeds up the vaporization process thus reducing system response delays and improving the device conversion efficiency. The reductant delivery system is further improved by adding a hydrolyzing catalyst to it, and by isolating the reductant and air mixture from the heating element.
