Haptic sensations for tactile feedback computer interface devices. In one method, a tactile sensation is output during the interaction of a cursor and a graphical object, the tactile sensation being based on a periodic waveform and having a frequency correlated with a size of the graphical object interacted with the cursor. An adjustable bit rate (ABR) feedback control scheme is provided where the effects of multiloop delays and high priority traffic transmission are built into the control model. The data traffic is filtered by a low pass filter. Then, the low frequency bandwidth of the filtered traffic is measured and compared to a predetermined threshold. If the measured value exceeds the threshold, the ABR traffic flow is reduced. If the measured value is less than the threshold, the ABR traffic flow is increased. In addition, a General Prediction Control (GPC) method may be applied to the control model for optimal performance. An object of the invention is to minimize the unused link capacity subject to no congestion, where the ABR traffic is adapted to the low frequency variation of high priority traffic flow for high efficiency.

A method of force directed placement programming is presented. The method includes sorting objects of a netlist for placement by magnitude of their spreading force and selecting a plurality of the objects. The method further includes waiving (or nullifying) the spreading force for the selected objects in a subsequent non-linear program solver step of the force directed placement program. The positions of the objects after the subsequent non-linear program solver step are based only on their connections to other objects in the netlist. The selected objects no longer retain their relative ordering as obtained during a previous non-linear program solve step of the force directed placement program. An alternative method of force directed placement programming is also present, which includes identifying objects from a netlist for placement that have a very high spreading force magnitude. The method further includes controlling the spreading force magnitude for the objects identified in the force directed placement programming to reduce wirelength in a chip design without sacrificing spreading of the objects.

A treat dispensing pet toy comprises a hub assembly having first and second hubs and an axle interconnecting the hubs. A barrel is mounted over the axle and is disposed between the hubs. The barrel has an interior chamber to hold treats. A treat dispensing opening is formed on the barrel and communicates with the interior chamber. When the pet toy is contacted with sufficient force, the hub assembly and barrel independently rotate thereby establishing a rotational differential. Treats fall through or are otherwise ejected from the opening in the barrel. According to a method of dispensing treats, the barrel and hub assembly independently rotate at different rotational speeds to affect the rate of dispensing treats.
