Haptic sensations for tactile feedback interface devices

Haptic sensations for tactile feedback computer interface devices. In one method, a tactile sensation is output during the interaction of a cursor and a graphical object, the tactile sensation being based on a periodic waveform and having a frequency correlated with a size of the graphical object interacted with the cursor. Another method includes receiving an indication of a position of a cursor, causing the cursor to snap to a graphical object, such as a line, when the cursor is within a predetermined distance so that the cursor can be moved along or within the graphical object, and enabling the output of a vibration sensation while the cursor is moved along or within the object. In another method, a tactile sensation includes a pop sensation that is a short, high magnitude sensation, and then a ringing sensation during or immediately after the output of the pop sensation and which can fade in magnitude over time.

Safe correlator system for automatic car wash

A correlator system for automatic car wash has roller assemblies for supporting the front left and right wheels of a vehicle entering a car wash line. A set of guide rails or bars cooperate with the roller assemblies to adjust axial displacement and angular misalignment between the vehicle's front end and a conveyor track transporting the vehicle through the car wash facility. The rollers in the roller assembly rotate freely with minimal friction, axially displacing the front end of the vehicle and adjusting the angular misalignment of the front wheels. The low friction, easy-to-rotate rollers are provided with a plurality of braking elements that generate friction against the rollers, retarding their rotation when a worker steps thereon. The friction generated by the braking elements is insufficient to prevent roller rotation during alignment of the front end with the conveyor track. Injuries to car wash personnel caused by loss of balance when stepping on the rollers are virtually eliminated, and an accurate alignment of the vehicle's front end with the car wash conveyor track is reliably achieved.

Vibration damper assembly for the buckets of a turbine

A damper pin is disposed between adjacent buckets of a turbine rotor. A first bucket has circumferentially extending supports defining a pair of axially spaced surfaces on which a damper pin rests in a cold condition of the turbine. The adjacent bucket is undercut adjacent its platform to provide an angled surface overlying a generally correspondingly angled surface of the damper pin. The damper pin fits slightly loose within the recess and, upon turbine rotation at speed, the angled surfaces of the damper pin and recess cooperate to bias the damper pin against the first bucket whereby the damper pin engages both buckets and dissipates vibratory action.

Silicon carbide gate transistor

A field-effect transistor (FET) device and method of fabrication uses an electrically interconnected polycrystalline or microcrystalline silicon carbide (SiC) gate having a lower electron affinity and higher work function than a polysilicon gate FET. The smaller threshold voltage magnitude of the SiC gate FET allows reduced power supply voltages (lowering power consumption and facilitating downward scaling of transistor dimensions), and enables higher switching speeds and improved performance. The smaller threshold voltage magnitudes are obtained without ion-implantation, which is particularly useful for SOI and thin film transistor devices. Threshold voltage magnitudes are stable in spite of subsequent thermal processing steps. N-channel threshold voltages are optimized for enhancement mode.

Inverter bridge short-circuit protection scheme

A fault handling system for short circuit recovery in three-phase multiple-level inverter bridges, used to drive inductive loads, to assure a proper sequence for turning-off switches in the inverter bridge. Switches are selected for use in the inverter bridge so that outer switches toward the most positive and most negative bus voltage levels of the inverter bridge have lower transconductances than inner switches closest to an output phase of the inverter bridge. Additionally, driver cards driving outer switches utilize lower magnitude excitation control signals than driver cards driving inner switches. Driver cards driving outer switches, when detecting desaturation of an on-state switch, are set to automatically command the outer switch to an off-state, whereas driver cards driving inner switches wait for instructions from a controller before taking action.
