Noise and vibration suppressors

In order to form a noise suppressor in a hose of e.g. a motor vehicle, modular portions are connected in series to define suppression chambers with particular noise suppression characteristics. Those characteristics are due to the volume of each chamber, to the size of the apertures from the chambers to the central duct of the suppressor, and optionally due to spacers which are inserted into at least one aperture of the chambers to alter the effective open area of that aperture. Such spacers may also be used in which the noise suppressor is not modular. Where modular portions are used, it is preferable that each chamber is bounded by parts of two modular portions. A wall of one modular portion may then close the chamber in another modular portion, making the manufacture of the modular portions easier. Also disclosed is the use of a mass acting as a damper, which may be a noise suppressor as previously discussed, within a hose. The mass is connected to the hose by resilient means, e.g. electrometric material.

Cloverleaf microgyroscope with electrostatic alignment and tuning

A micro-gyroscope (10) having closed loop output operation by a control voltage (Vty), that is demodulated by a drive axis (x-axis) signal Vthx of the sense electrodes (S1, S2), providing Coriolis torque rebalance to prevent displacement of the micro-gyroscope (10) on the output axis (y-axis) Vthy˜0. Closed loop drive axis torque, Vtx maintains a constant drive axis amplitude signal, Vthx. The present invention provides independent alignment and tuning of the micro-gyroscope by using separate electrodes and electrostatic bias voltages to adjust alignment and tuning. A quadrature amplitude signal, or cross-axis transfer function peak amplitude is used to detect misalignment that is corrected to zero by an electrostatic bias voltage adjustment. The cross-axis transfer function is either Vthy / Vty or Vtnx / Vtx. A quadrature signal noise level, or difference in natural frequencies estimated from measurements of the transfer functions is used to detect residual mistuning, that is corrected to zero by a second electrostatic bias voltage adjustment.

Vibration damper assembly for the buckets of a turbine

A damper pin is disposed between adjacent buckets of a turbine rotor. A first bucket has circumferentially extending supports defining a pair of axially spaced surfaces on which a damper pin rests in a cold condition of the turbine. The adjacent bucket is undercut adjacent its platform to provide an angled surface overlying a generally correspondingly angled surface of the damper pin. The damper pin fits slightly loose within the recess and, upon turbine rotation at speed, the angled surfaces of the damper pin and recess cooperate to bias the damper pin against the first bucket whereby the damper pin engages both buckets and dissipates vibratory action.

The invention relates to a low cost and high efficient soundproof material and a manufacturing method thereof, relates to the field of soundproof materials, solves the problems that in the prior art, soundproof materials do not have a prominent soundproofing effect, generate harmful gas, which can harm the human health, and have a high cost; and provides a low cost and high efficient soundproof material. The soundproof material comprises thermoplastic resin and an inorganic filling material, wherein the surface of the inorganic filling material has been processed by a coupling agent processing liquid, the inorganic filling material accounts for 15 to 80 wt% of the total weight of the soundproof material, and the balance being thermoplastic resin. In the soundproof material, the connections among the particles are abnormal, thus the internal friction of the incident sound waves is increased by the structure of the soundproof material, and a relaxation effect is generated to absorb the sound waves. Filling materials with different particle sizes are corresponding to waves in different wavelengths or frequencies, so the soundproof material can reduce sounds in different frequencies. Moreover the soundproof material has a good soundproof effect and is suitable for being promoted and used.

Polymer composites possessing improved vibration damping

Fiber-reinforced polymer composites possessing improved damping ability are provided. In one aspect, the fibers provide the composite with a relatively high dynamic modulus over a broad range of frequencies for a given temperature. In another aspect, the polymer may comprise a viscoelastic polymer possessing a relatively high loss factor for a given frequency and temperature. The polymer may be further tailored to control the center frequency at which the maximum loss factor of the polymer is achieved. The composite so formed exhibits a relatively small reduction in loss factor with significant increase in dynamic modulus over a broad range of frequencies for a given temperature. As a result, a structure damped by the composite exhibits a relatively high, constant loss factor as compared to conventional damping materials. Thus, embodiments of the disclosed composites dissipate significantly more energy during each vibration cycle than conventional damping materials.
