909 results about "Cheek" patented technology

The cheeks (Latin: buccae) constitute the area of the face below the eyes and between the nose and the left or right ear. "Buccal" means relating to the cheek. In humans, the region is innervated by the buccal nerve. The area between the inside of the cheek and the teeth and gums is called the vestibule or buccal pouch or buccal cavity and forms part of the mouth. In other animals the cheeks may also be referred to as jowls.

Automatic mask design and registration and feature detection for computer-aided skin analysis

ActiveUS20090196475A1Avoiding skin regions not useful or amenableCharacter and pattern recognitionDiagnostic recording/measuringDiagnostic Radiology ModalityNose
Methods and systems for automatically generating a mask delineating a region of interest (ROI) within an image containing skin are disclosed. The image may be of an anatomical area containing skin, such as the face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms or hands, among others, or may be of portions of such areas, such as the cheek, forehead, or nose, among others. The mask that is generated is based on the locations of anatomical features or landmarks in the image, such as the eyes, nose, eyebrows and lips, which can vary from subject to subject and image to image. As such, masks can be adapted to individual subjects and to different images of the same subjects, while delineating anatomically standardized ROIs, thereby facilitating standardized, reproducible skin analysis over multiple subjects and / or over multiple images of each subject. Moreover, the masks can be limited to skin regions that include uniformly illuminated portions of skin while excluding skin regions in shadow or hot-spot areas that would otherwise provide erroneous feature analysis results. Methods and systems are also disclosed for automatically registering a skin mask delineating a skin ROI in a first image captured in one imaging modality (e.g., standard white light, UV light, polarized light, multi-spectral absorption or fluorescence imaging, etc.) onto a second image of the ROI captured in the same or another imaging modality. Such registration can be done using linear as well as non-linear spatial transformation techniques.

Facial feature detection on mobile devices

Locating an eye includes generating an intensity response map by applying a 3-rectangle filter and applying K-mean clustering to the map to determine the eye. Locating an eye corner includes applying logarithm transform and grayscale stretching to generate a grayscale eye patch, generating a binary map of the patch by using a threshold based on a histogram of the patch, and estimating the eye corner by averaging coordinates weighted by minimal eigenvalues of spatial gradient matrices in a search region based on the binary map. Locating a mouth corner includes generating another intensity response map and generating another binary map using another threshold based on another histogram of the intensity response map. Locating a chin or a cheek includes applying angle constrained gradient analysis to reject locations that cannot be the chin or cheek. Locating a cheek further includes removing falsely detected cheeks by parabola fitting curves through the cheeks.

Oral isolation device with evacuation chambers

An essentially a U-shaped oral isolation device having a tongue arm, a buccal arm, and a hinge section is provided. The device is an essentially hollow member having an upper suction chamber and a lower suction chamber within the hollows of the oral isolation device. Each chamber further comprising suction inlet apertures through which saliva, fluid, aerosol mist, and debris can be evacuated from the operative site, and a suction outlet chamber through which the collected saliva, fluid, and debris are removed from the device. A U-shaped hinge member joins the buccal arm and the tongue arm. It has position memory which permits the user to squeeze the arm members toward one another for placement in the mouth and upon release, the arm members exert opposing positional influence against the tongue and cheek. Also provided is a method of use for the device in which the tongue arm and buccal arms are forced toward one another. The hinged member is then inserted into the patient's oral cavity and placed around the rearmost tooth. Upon proper placement of the device, the user releases the pressure on the arms of the device, the arms thereby exerting opposing positional influence against the cheek and tongue, resulting in retraction of the tongue and cheek, thereby creating a clear operative field. A reduced pressure high volume device is then attached to the upper chamber suction outlet and a low pressure reduced volume device is attached to the lower chamber outlet.

Adjustable butt stock assembly

A semi-infinitely-adjustable butt stock assembly. A butt stock is slidably affixed to a buffer stem. An over-center lock is attached to the butt stock adjacent to the buffer stem. The user can disengage the over-center lock from the buffer stem by rotating a lever thereby permitting the longitudinal position of the butt stock to be adjusted relative to the buffer plate. To secure the butt stock at the desired position, the user rotates the lever in the opposite direction causing the over-center lock to re-engage the buffer stem. A cheek rest overlaying the butt stock and biased forward with respect thereto is adjustable vertically with respect to the butt stock by manually moving the cheek rest aft, adjusting it vertically, and releasing the cheek rest.

Filter mask

The invention provides a filter mask for filtering air inhaled and exhaled from the mouth and nostrils while providing a positive facial lock at all edges of the mask. The filter mask has upper and lower edges which are provided with malleable stiffeners for conforming to the shape of the wearer's nose and cheek area and the lower jaw and chin area, respectively. The material of the filter mask is folded to have an omega pleat for forming a breathing chamber and a secondary pleat for assisting in securing the mask to the lower jaw and chin area. A pair of headbands are used to hold the mask on the head. The peripheral edges of the mask are bound. The mask provides excellent filtration since the positive facial lock around all edges of the mask substantially prevents air from leaking between the mask and the face.
