An indirect gas operating system for an M4 type automatic or semi-automatic firearm. The indirect gas operating system has a gas block having a cylinder. The gas block is fitted to a barrel assembly having a bore with the cylinder in communication with the bore. A piston having a piston end and a striking end has the piston end fitted to the cylinder. A bolt assembly having a striking surface is provided. When a cartridge is fired, gas displaces the piston end and causes the striking end to strike the striking surface displacing the bolt assembly. The cylinder and the piston are together removable as an assembly from the firearm without removal of the gas block.

Rifle

A rifle with an upper receiver and a barrel attached to the upper receiver and including a bolt carrier, and operating, buffer, and cooling systems. The operating system includes a cylinder and a piston coupled to receive propelling gases from the barrel. As the piston moves between retracted and extended positions the bolt carrier is moved between closed and open positions. The bolt carrier includes a weight movable within a guide frame between rearward and forward limits. The buffer system includes a compression spring in a tube attached to the upper receiver in abutting engagement with the bolt carrier. A partially fluid filled cylinder is attached to a coil of the spring and includes a piston and shaft. The piston is formed so that fluid in the cylinder restricts movement in one direction and allows free movement in a second direction.

Modular sleeve yoke

A Swan universal receiver sleeve attached to the top of a firearm upper receiver and extended forward above the firearm barrel to a position just short of the firearm front sight. The underside of the rear portion of the sleeve is fixedly attached to the receiver top. The underside of the forward portion of the sleeve has an upper handguard piece attached thereto. A bottom handguard piece is fitted about the bottom of the gun barrel and is attached to the upper handguard piece. The handguard pieces are not physically connected in any way to the gun barrel. The sleeve is self supported by the connection of the rear portion underside to the receiver top. A special yoke is inserted about the barrel nut of the firearm to which the modular sleeve is attached. The special yoke reinforces the modular sleeve while keeping the firearm barrel free floating.

Replacement chassis stock system for firearms

Disclosed herein is a modular, replacement chassis stock system for an existing firearm's operating mechanism possessing a simple design and incorporating durable, commercially available components. The system comprises a chassis assembly with up to three integral mounting rails, a top rail, a replacement operating rod guide, a telescoping buttstock assembly, and a buttstock / grip mount assembly. The present invention may be used to replace the standard stock of an M-14 rifle (or copies thereof, such as the Springfield Armory M1A) such that the barrel is held in perfect alignment with up to five Mil Std 1913 pattern mounting rails. The telescoping buttstock assembly is adjustable in length via the use of a thumb lever release and includes an adjustable cheek-rest, an optionally adjustable buttpad, and a pistol grip. Auxiliary devices may be attached to the chassis stock system via the buttstock / grip mount assembly located above the pistol grip. The chassis stock system is secured at the rear of the barreled action by the installation of the trigger assembly and at the front by attaching it to the replacement operating rod guide.

An assembly for modifying an automatic firearm such as a carbine rifle to relocate operation of the firearm charge handle. The assembly includes a fore-grip bracket, a drive rod movable in the foregrip bracket and attached to the charging handle release lever, and a cocking handle attached to the drive rod, the rod being attached to the charge handle for alternately releasing and latching the charge handle for clearing the firearm.
