Fluid dispense tips

InactiveUS6981664B1Further-reduced surface tensionIncreased dispensing precision capabilityLiquid surface applicatorsClosuresDecreased pressureBiomedical engineering
A fluid dispense tip includes a bevel at an opening to reduce the amount of surface tension, or “land”, at the opening. The bevel is formed by grinding in a longitudinal direction such that any tooling scars resulting from the grinding operation are likewise longitudinally oriented, further reducing the amount of surface tension in the tip, thereby leading to heightened dispensing accuracy. The tip may be machined from stock as a unitary piece, to increase its lifetime, and may be formed with a bore of a relatively large diameter that is tapered down to a smaller diameter near the tip opening, to allow for delivery of fluid through the tip body at a decreased pressure. The tip may optionally be formed with a Luer™-style fitting on the body, such that the tip is compatible with pumps that utilize such a fitting.

Electroplating bath containing wetting agent for defect reduction

InactiveUS7232513B1Wetting of substrate surfaceReducing pit defectSemiconductor/solid-state device manufacturingSuppressorDyne
An electroplating solution contains a wetting agent in addition to a suppressor and an accelerator. In some embodiments, the solution has a cloud point temperature greater than 35° C. to avoid precipitation of wetting agent or other solute out of the plating solution. In some embodiments, the wetting agent decreases the air-liquid surface tension of the electroplating solution to 60 dyne / cm2 or less to increase the wetting ability of the solution with a substrate surface. In some embodiments of a method for plating metal onto substrate surface, the electroplating solution has a measured contact angle with the substrate surface less than 60 degrees.

Cushion items with flexible contouring

A cushion for supporting a user relative to a support surface is provided. The cushion has material with sufficient flexibility to deform under a weight of the user and sufficient resilience to return to its original state when the weight is removed. A supporting face contacts the support surface and is characterized by a plurality of points. The supporting face is contoured such that, when the cushion is in an unloaded configuration, a first subset of the plurality of points contact the support surface and a second subset of the plurality of points do not contact the support surface. When a user then sits on the cushion so that it is in a loaded configuration, at least some of the points in the second subset are displaced under the user's weight and contact the support surface. The cushion thus both bends and compresses to distribute the weight of the user.

Aqueous suspension preparations with excellent redispersibility

The aqueous suspension can be prepared by incorporating, in an aqueous suspension of a hardly soluble drug, a water-soluble polymer within the concentration range from the concentration at which the surface tension of the aqueous suspension of the drug begins to decrease up to the concentration at which the reduction in surface tension ceases. The resulting aqueous suspension shows ready redispersibility and will not undergo aggregation of dispersed particles or caking. Because of its good redispersibility, the suspension is useful as a parenteral preparation, eye drops, nasal drops, a preparation for oral administration, a lotion or the like.

Tamping labeler

By providing projections extending outwardly from the base of a wet tamping face of a tamping labeler, which projections maintain at least a substantial portion of a label at a stand off from said base, the surface tension between the label and tamping face is reduced. This reduction in surface tension helps ensure that when a label is tamped against a product, it remains there. The tamping face may be provided with a regular, or irregular, pattern of projections, or with a texture that results in the projections.

Applicator for superficial corneal medicaments

An applicator for applying fluid medicaments to a corneal surface of a patient, after surgery, includes a circular, ring-shaped member. The ring member creates an aperture which extends between parallel planes, with a wall surrounding the aperture as well as upper and lower openings into the aperture. The wall around the aperture is tapered, and there is a hole that extends through the wall. A hollow shaft is connected in fluid communication with the hole in the wall through which a fluid can be injected into the aperture. A bubble of the fluid can then be cradled in the aperture by the wall, and held therein by surface tension across the lower opening of the aperture. An application of the fluid bubble onto the patient's eye requires only contact between the fluid bubble and the eye, with no need for contact between the applicator and the eye.
