8329 results about "Disinfectant" patented technology

Disinfectants are antimicrobial agents that are applied to the surface of non-living objects to destroy microorganisms that are living on the objects. Disinfection does not necessarily kill all microorganisms, especially resistant bacterial spores; it is less effective than sterilization, which is an extreme physical and/or chemical process that kills all types of life. Disinfectants are different from other antimicrobial agents such as antibiotics, which destroy microorganisms within the body, and antiseptics, which destroy microorganisms on living tissue. Disinfectants are also different from biocides — the latter are intended to destroy all forms of life, not just microorganisms. Disinfectants work by destroying the cell wall of microbes or interfering with their metabolism.

Disinfecting male luer connector caps

A system and method for disinfecting an exposed portion of a female luer connector is disclosed. A male luer connector coupled to a male luer connector cap is provided where the male luer connector cap has a chamber containing a disinfectant and a sealing member for sealing the disinfectant in the chamber. The chamber is at least partly opened and the disinfectant exposed by movement of the sealing member. An exposed surface of a female luer connector is caused to come in contact with the disinfecting fluid in the chamber prior to the female luer connector mating with the male luer connector.

Dialysis connector and cap having an integral disinfectant

Apparatuses and methods for providing sterile connection during, for example, dialysis therapy. The present invention provides a connector and a cap therefore that easily and readily attaches to a dialysate container and a catheter inserted into a patient's peritoneal cavity. The connector and the cap enable the dialysate to readily transport between the container and the peritoneal cavity while minimizing the potential of contamination therein due to, for example, handling during use. The connector includes a shell that encloses a cap. The cap houses a slit septum and also includes a sealed disinfectant within an interior receptacle. When the catheter or catheter set attaches to the cap, the seal breaks and the disinfectant spreads over the threads between the catheter set and the cap.

Personal care compositions with color changing indicator

The invention describes a composition for use in disinfecting a surface for personal use, such as a public restroom facility or telephone. The composition and delivery of the composition provides for the placement of a thin layer of disinfectant which includes a acid-base indicator. The acid-base indicator disappears as the thin layer effects the germicidal activity of the disinfectant. The composition is also rapidly drying, so that the acid-base indicator disappears as well as the disinfecting composition leaving the surface dry. The invention also relates to use of the compositions in a lotion, such as a sunscreen. Use of the acid-base indicator provides a method to visualize where the lotion is applied by color, with the color then later dissipating.

Sprayable formulations for the treatment of acute inflammatory skin conditions

A topical spray or foam, methods of making the formulation, and methods of use thereof, has been developed. In one preferred embodiment, the composition includes one or more active agents and exhibits both antibacterial activity and antifungal activity. Excipients such as chemical disinfectants, anti-pruritic agents to minimize itching, and skin protective compounds may be added. The composition may be formulated to be dispensed as a spray or foam and the spray or foam may be administered either by a hand pump or by an aerosolizing propellant. A second single phase formulation has also been developed. The formulation comprises a first drug which is water soluble or hydrophilic and a second drug which is lipid soluble or hydrophobic, wherein at least one of the drugs is bound to an ion-exchange resin. The use of binding resins, such as ion-exchange resins, allows drugs with incompatible solvent requirements to be prepared in a single-phase formulation.

Continuous Feed Hypodermic Syringe with Self Contained Cartridge Dispenser

A hypodermic syringe and a plurality of single use cartridges able to be successively loaded into said syringe for providing rapid dispensing of a medicant to numerous users without possibility of contamination. The cartridges are continuously fed through the syringe for the quick and efficient inoculation of patients. An operator inserts a needle into a patient by pushing in a trigger. Prior to the needle being inserted into the patient, a disinfectant is dispersed from the cartridge to maintain sterility. An operator then pushes in a plunger forcing the medication through the needle into the patient. The plunger is pulled back into its original location after use. The needle is pulled back with the plunger out of the patient's skin and back into the cartridge. A new cartridge on a clip is then advanced into the syringe for use in inoculating the next patient needing medication. The syringe and cartridge dispenser further maintains a sterile environment during successive vaccinations reducing the transmission of any disease from patient to patient.

Gentle-acting skin-disinfectants

InactiveUS20030152644A1Minimize skin irritationUnexpected antimicrobial effectivenessBiocideCosmetic preparationsOctoxyglycerinDisinfectant
Antimicrobial compositions having synergistic combinations of octoxyglycerin and at least one other antimicrobial agent in formulations which are more effective than prior art compositions without causing increased irritation to the skin of the average user. In certain embodiments, skin irritation may be minimized by low concentrations of antimicrobials and / or the presence of soothing compounds such as zinc. Preferred embodiments include combinations of octoxyglycerin, a quaternary compound, and at least one other antimicrobial agent. Without being bound to any particular theory, it is hypothesized that the unexpected antimicrobial effectiveness of combinations of octoxyglycerin may result from an enhancement of the permeability of microbes to antimicrobials caused by octoxyglycerin.
