Performance Assessment and Information System Based on Sports Ball Motion

Disclosed is an integrated sports assessment and information invention, applicable to most sports, designed to measure, calculate, derive, and analyze the resultant sport ball movement and ball-orientation characteristics in order to provide an assessment of the player's performance and the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the sports action. The observed position and motion characteristics of the ball are continuously and empirically determined using measured data, environmental factors affecting the ball's position and orientation are measured or derived. Related data is collected, stored, manipulated, and analyzed using 1st, 2nd and higher order statistics to generate output products for display of single or multiple occurrences based on any sport appropriate criteria. State-of-the-art display techniques provide the player, instructor or observer with valuable information regarding the player's performance, the impact of the player's action(s) or related circumstances on the ball's travel-path that will enhance performance, understanding and enjoyment of the sport.

Method to Provide Feedback to a Physical Therapy Patient or Athlete

A process is disclosed to visually capture a person doing a set of steps for an exercise, and then to compare that person during exercise to those steps, measuring the results. Each exercise is tailored to the individual patient, rather than to an “ideal” or “generic” standard. This flexibility allows a physical therapist to optimize treatment for patients progressively, and / or to accommodate multiple physical problems in one patient. This invention can be used as a medical software product under the guidance of a physical therapist for rehabilitation exercises. It may alternatively be used as a fitness or sports training device under the guidance of a trainer or coach. By providing visual data and tracking results, it enhances communication between the physical therapist and the patient (or trainer and athlete), and optionally, the physician.

Dual tray athletic mouthguard

A mouthguard for use by athletes, including a dual tray assembly molded together. The first tray is molded from a hard plastic such as an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, and has a portion that engage the cusps of the lower jaw molars to prevent the tray from moving backward on impact. A second tray is molded on to the first tray using a soft plastic or gel like material, such as a high percentage vinyl acetate copolymers of ethylene vinyl acetate, that softens at slightly elevated temperatures that a user can easily tolerate. The first time the mouthguard is used, it is heated in warm water, then the user puts it in his or her mouth and bites down to cause the second tray to conform to the upper teeth. When in use, the ridges on the first tray engage the teeth of the lower jaw to prevent movement of the lower jaw on impact.

Sports training system

The sports training system of the present invention is preferably used in association with the sport of basketball to improve a player's shooting and dribbling fundamentals. The system includes a tower positioned between the player shooting the ball and the basketball hoop. The tower requires the player to shoot the ball over the top of the tower. The act of shooting the ball over the tower requires the player to have a preferred release angle, which in turn, causes the ball to descend towards the hoop at a preferred entrance angle. The system also includes a pad configured to be stood upon by the player, which ensures that the player's feet are properly aligned with the basketball hoop. The system may also have a core training apparatus to improve a player's dribbling fundamentals by requiring the player to dribble the ball in a crouched athletic stance.
