16026 results about "Record" patented technology

In computer science, a record (also called a structure, struct, or compound data) is a basic data structure. Records in a database or spreadsheet are usually called "rows". A record is a collection of fields, possibly of different data types, typically in fixed number and sequence. The fields of a record may also be called members, particularly in object-oriented programming; fields may also be called elements, though these risk confusion with the elements of a collection.

Logical access block processing protocol for transparent secure file storage

Network data files are secure through the operation of an infrastructure gateway-based network file access appliance. Network file data, corresponding to network pocket payload data, are further reduced to a sequence of data blocks that are secured through any combination of block encryption, compression, and digital signatures. File meta-data, including encryption, compression and block-level digital signatures are persistently stored with the file data, either in-band in the file as stored or out-of-band key as a separately stored file or file policy record. File meta-data is recovered with accesses of the file data to support bidirectional encryption and compression and to detect tampering with the file data by comparison against block-level digital signatures.

Method and apparatus for cascading data through redundant data storage units

A data storage facility for transferring data from a data altering apparatus, such as a production data processing site to a remote data receiving site. The data storage facility includes a first data store for recording each change in the data generated by the data altering apparatus. A register set records each change on a track-by-track basis. A second data store has first and second operating modes. During a first operating mode the second data store becomes a mirror of the first data store. During a second operating mode the second data store ceases to act as a mirror and becomes a source for a transfer of data to the data receiving site. Only information that has been altered, i.e., specific tracks that have been altered, are transferred during successive operations in the second operating mode. Commands from the local production site initiate the transfers between the first and second operating modes.

Use of web pages to remotely program a broadcast content recording system

A remotely programmable broadcast content recording system is programmed through a web page to record broadcast content such as television programs. Accordingly, a user can select content of interest and program the system from almost any location using a web browser. A host system hosts a web site through which the user can browse program listings and select content. In response to the selection of a program by the user, the host system creates programming data and transmits the programming data to the user's recording system. The recording system can be configured to receive transmissions from the host system. A client programming module configured to receive the transmissions can be used to program a conventional recording device. The recording system can be supplemented with a web server and an Internet connection to provide a point of presence on the World Wide Web through which the system can be directly programmed.

Triggering applications based on a captured text in a mixed media environment

A Mixed Media Reality (MMR) system and associated techniques are disclosed. The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and / or web link as a second medium). In one particular embodiment, the MMR system includes an action processor and method, and MMR documents with an associated action. The MMR document structure is particularly advantageous because the ability to specify different actions for different MMR documents, combined with the ability to create any number of MMR documents for a particular location on any media, allows the MMR architecture to serve as a universal trigger or initiator for additional processing. In other words, addition processing or actions can be triggered or initiated based on MMR recognition. The action processor receives the output of the MMR recognition process which yields an MMR document including at least one action. The action processor executes that action which includes various commands to the MMR system or other systems coupled to the MMR system. The MMR system architecture is advantageous because an action can be executed by pointing the capture device at a block of text, and the action is performed. Example actions include retrieving the text in electronic form to the capture device, retrieving the specification for the action, inserting data to a MMR document, transferring data between documents, purchasing items, authoring actions or reviewing historical information about actions. The MMR system includes a variety of user applications (one or more actions) initiated by the MMR recognition of a text patch such as information retrieval for a travel guide book, stock listings or advertisements; information capture such as recording content from a conference, recording and storing multimedia associated with the document, capturing information for a calendar and on the fly authoring; purchasing media files for storage on any part of an MMR document.

System and method for mining data

A system and method for extracting data, hereinafter referred to as MitoMine, that produces a strongly-typed ontology defined collection referencing (and cross referencing) all extracted records. The input to the mining process can be any data source, such as a text file delimited into a set of possibly dissimilar records. MitoMine contains parser routines and post processing functions, known as ‘munchers’. The parser routines can be accessed either via a batch mining process or as part of a running server process connected to a live source. Munchers can be registered on a per data-source basis in order to process the records produced, possibly writing them to an external database and / or a set of servers. The present invention also embeds an interpreted ontology based language within a compiler / interpreter (for the source format) such that the statements of the embedded language are executed as a result of the source compiler ‘recognizing’ a given construct within the source and extracting the corresponding source content. In this way, the execution of the statements in the embedded program will occur in a sequence that is dictated wholly by the source content. This system and method therefore make it possible to bulk extract free-form data from such sources as CD-ROMs, the web etc. and have the resultant structured data loaded into an ontology based system.
