1305 results about "Index finger" patented technology

The index finger (also referred to as forefinger, first finger, pointer finger, trigger finger, digitus secundus, digitus II, and many other terms), is the second finger of a human hand. It is located between the first and third digits, between the thumb and the middle finger. It is usually the most dextrous and sensitive finger of the hand, though not the longest – it is shorter than the middle finger, and may be shorter or longer than the ring finger – see digit ratio.

Ultrasonic device for cutting and coagulating

An ultrasonic clamp coagulator assembly that is configured to permit selective cutting, coagulation, and fine dissection required in fine and delicate surgical procedures. The assembly includes a clamping mechanism, including a clamp arm cam-mounted at the distal portion of the instrument, which is specifically configured to create a desired level of tissue clamping forces. The balanced blade provides a functional asymmetry for improved visibility at the blade tip and a multitude of edges and surfaces, designed to provide a multitude of tissue effects: clamped coagulation, clamped cutting, grasping, back-cutting, dissection, spot coagulation, tip penetration and tip scoring. The assembly also features hand activation configured to provide an ergonomical grip and operation for the surgeon. Hand switches are placed in the range of the natural axial motion of the user's index or middle fingers, whether gripping the surgical instrument right-handed or left handed.

Hand-mounted indicia-reading device with finger motion triggering

A wearable indicia reader is worn on the back of a user's hand such that the act of pointing the user's index finger is sufficient to align the indicia reader and trigger the indicia-reading process. Triggering is achieved by sensing the user's finger in an image or by breaking a light path in a photogate.

Method for identity verification

The method for identity verification employs biometric technology. Positioned at the center of the system is a stylus with any of a number of biometric properties or their combination or with one or more metric sensors, while the customer uses the stylus to sign his / her name, or even for writing anything. The identity verification system is used at point-of-sale terminals, in various closed environments, to access a computer network, in applications involving pen-based computers and smart-pens, and for e-commerce. When fingerprint sensors are used, the sensors are positioned in the stylus grip, one sensor for the index finger, and a second sensor for the thumb. In one variation, one-to-one biometric matching is used. Each participant carries on his / her person a device that includes an encrypted biometric for reference purposes to gain access Into the system. Processing is simplified since the system need only make a “MATCH” or “NO MATCH” decision. In a second variation that is particularly useful in closed environments, one-to-many biometric matching is used. During each event access request, the community of reference prints is searched for a match with the applicant. Each member of the community need carry nothing on his / her person to participate in the system. In either variation, the stylus is either attached to each site or is portable, one such stylus being carried by each participant.

A universal medical Luer Protecting Pouch™ is disclosed. The inexpensive elastic pouch contains disinfectant and is configured to terminate the present epidemic in hospitals by providing a very inexpensive and easily implemented universal device for protecting and swabbing a wide variety of luer systems from bacterial contamination. The pouch has a flattened configuration and can be elastically dilated, as by squeezing the pouch between the thumb and index finger, to allow for simplified cover of both luer valves and male luers with a single device, which is readily carried in large numbers in nurse's pockets (in a manner similar to that for conventional alcohol swabs). The same pouch covers either the face of the luer valve or distal end of the male luer at the discretion of the user and without transmission of torsion or longitudinal force which might loosen the luer valve or otherwise be transmitted to the vein.

Portable display device, method of controlling portable display device, program, and recording medium

Provided is a portable display device sufficiently small to be held with one hand that enters a state for accepting a gesture when a fixed coordinate position near a central portion between a left display unit (14a) and a right display unit (14b) is pressed with a thumb Ftl of one hand holding the device, and accepts a command for performing such as page flipping processing based on a gesture inputted with an index finger Ffr of the other hand. Thus, it is possible to achieve an interface for input operations suitable for a two-screen display screen, where holding a two-screen portable display device naturally causes the device to enter a command accepting state to allow gesture recognition, and to enter a command non-accepting state when the portable display device is not held, in order to prevent a command from being falsely executed due to an unintended contact and such to the display screen.

Versatile stun glove

InactiveUS7012797B1Promote activationWithout unnecessary delayElectric shock equipmentsApparelSTUNIndex finger
A versatile stun glove having at least two electrodes placed in the palm region, and / or on the back of the hand and / or on the fingers of the glove. A rechargeable power supply that uses simple thin diameter and thickness replaceable batteries for powering the electrodes. Batteries can include 9-volt battery, a double A, and triple A batteries. A thin watch battery can also be used so that no protrusions extend outward from the glove body. The power supply can be located in the palm region and / or on the back of the hand of the glove. The power supply can be accessed by a foldable panel cover that can be removed by hook and loop fasteners(Velcro®), snaps, a zipper and the like. The power can be activated by a simple switch located adjacent to the finger tip of the index finger of the user so that touching the tip of the thumb against the index finger tip activates the power. An alternative activation source can be a pressure sensor that is underneath one of the electrodes so that pressing the at least one electrode into an assailant activates the power. A novel stand and power supply recharge allows for the glove to be mounted to a vehicle cigarette lighter. The location of the stand allows for the glove to be easily accessible and reachable when needed by the user. A stun stick accessory can allow for the glove discharge to have greater reach to attackers and assailants.

Device for Input to a Screen

A working glove (1) has a finger-tip (3) for an index finger with a round surface (2) on the top. The round surface is supported by a detail, at least partly, made out of a polymer attached to the finger-tip (3) of the working-glove (1). The working-glove (1) enables a user, such as a worker at a ware-house, to perform an input of a user interaction to a touch screen without having to remove the glove or having to try to grip a peripheral, such as a stylus. With previous known gloves this is a particular problem at ware-houses with freezing temperatures, such as in the food-industry and at distribution centers of freezed food. The invention has advantages such as that the risk for erroneous input is reduced, the work efficiency increases, and valuable time is saved in the transition between packing and entering user interaction to the touch screen.

Anti-slip electronic device sleeve

A fabric-based electronic device sleeve with a stiff directional nap lining the interior of a pocket. The directional nap (or plush) of the fabric is oriented to permit easy slidable insertion of an electronic device into the sleeve's pocket, with static friction forces between the directional nap and the device preventing the device from slipping out on its own or falling from the sleeve when held in a downward direction. As a user removes the electronic device from the sleeve, a gentle pull upon pinching the device between thumb and index finger overcomes the static friction forces between the device and the directional nap lining to permit easy removal and access.

Humanoid flexible mechanical arm device

The invention discloses a humanoid flexible mechanism arm device which comprises five fingers which are driven by six motors. Modular structures with same structures are adopted on four fingers (an index finger, a middle finger, a third finger and a little finger). Special effects of finger coupling transmission are achieved by a manner that the one motor, a reduction gearbox, a transmission mechanism and a flexible body are comprehensively utilized on the modular fingers. A thumb is driven by two motors, a pair of duplex bevel gears and a cross-shaped shaft are applied on a base joint transmission system to achieve buckling and side-sway movements, and good transmission effects and arrangement of the thumb and a palm are achieved. Each finger is provided with three joints which include a base joint, a middle joint and a far joint, the speed ratio is close to 1: 1: 1, and the mechanical arm is enabled to be close to a movement pattern of a hand. The humanoid flexible mechanical arm device has the advantages of being large in fingertip output force and rigidity, compact in structural arrangement, high in humanization degree, stable in grab and the like.
