2890 results about "Paging" patented technology

In computer operating systems, paging is a memory management scheme by which a computer stores and retrieves data from secondary storage for use in main memory. In this scheme, the operating system retrieves data from secondary storage in same-size blocks called pages. Paging is an important part of virtual memory implementations in modern operating systems, using secondary storage to let programs exceed the size of available physical memory.

Virtual machine migration

A source virtual machine (VM) hosted on a source server is migrated to a destination VM on a destination server without first powering down the source VM. After optional pre-copying of the source VM's memory to the destination VM, the source VM is suspended and its non-memory state is transferred to the destination VM; the destination VM is then resumed from the transferred state. The source VM memory is either paged in to the destination VM on demand, or is transferred asynchronously by pre-copying and write-protecting the source VM memory, and then later transferring only the modified pages after the destination VM is resumed. The source and destination servers preferably share common storage, in which the source VM's virtual disk is stored; this avoids the need to transfer the virtual disk contents. Network connectivity is preferably also made transparent to the user by arranging the servers on a common subnet, with virtual network connection addresses generated from a common name space of physical addresses.

EMIP is utilized as a backbone network to provide mobility and service management and interconnection to external networks. A GPRS-IP Interworking entity (GII) interworks IP and GPRS protocols between GPRS and IP addressable network entities (i.e., translates messages of each protocol to corresponding messages of the other protocol). Mobility-related functionality is handled at the IP (network) layer. Mobile IP is used to support the macro-mobility and Handoff-Aware Wireless Access Internet Infrastructure (HAWAII) is used to support micro-mobility and paging. The Domain Router provides packet service management and interacts with a Home Location Register / Authentication Center, which provides GRPS registration, authentication and encryption.

Efficient paging in a wireless communication system

Methods and apparatus for efficient two-stage paging wireless communications systems are described. Wireless terminals are assigned to paging groups. A few first paging message information bits are modulated (using non-coherent modulation) into a first paging signal and communicated from a base station to wireless terminals. WTs wake-up, receive the first paging signal and quickly ascertain whether its paging group should expect a second paging signal, if so, the WT is operated to receive the second paging signal; otherwise, the WT goes back to sleep conserving power. The base station modulates (using coherent modulation) a number of second message information bits into a second paging signal and transmits the signal to WTs. From the information in first and second paging signals, a WT can determine that it is the paged WT and process the paging instructions. The intended paged WT can transmit an acknowledgement signal on a dedicated uplink resource.

Dynamically Configurable Memory System

In a digital system with a processor coupled to a paged memory system, the memory system may be dynamically configured using a memory compaction manager in order to allow portions of the memory to be placed in a low power mode. As applications are executed by the processor, program instructions are copied from a non-volatile memory coupled to the processor into pages of the paged memory system under control of an operating system. Pages in the paged memory system that are not being used by the processor are periodically identified. The paged memory system is compacted by copying pages that are being used by the processor from a second region of the paged memory into a first region of the paged memory. The second region may be placed in a low power mode when it contains no pages that are being used by the processor.

Enhanced connection management for multiple access networks

Semi-connected state operation for UEs in multiple-access networks is described. In the semi-connected state, UEs may monitor system information and paging, and mobility may be UE-controlled. Base stations may determine whether to transition UEs from the connected state to the semi-connected state based on capabilities, priority, data connections, or loading conditions. Base stations may maintain context information and logical traffic connections for UEs while UEs continue to be served by the base station in the semi-connected state. Thus, when a transition from the semi-connected state to the connected state occurs, the base station does not have to re-establish security parameters, nor re-establish logical traffic connections within the network for carrying control plane and user plane data for the UE. Context information for semi-connected state UEs may be shared between neighboring base stations or base stations within a context area. The techniques may be applied to LTE / LTE-A networks.
