Durable global asset-tracking device and a method of using the same

A communication system for tracking an asset globally accesses multiple communication networks and switches among them, choosing the most economic, available communication mode without need for a constant power supply. An integrated motion sensor uses a combination of GPS updating and dynamic movement calculation to obtain the most reliable position estimation. Current location is identified within a small radius at all times. While taking advantage of the GPS system to obtain accurate location information, direct exposure to GPS satellites is not required at all times. The system obtains position information from GPS satellites whenever valid GPS signals are available, and provides its own location tracking capability when GPS signals are not accessible. The position accuracy of the device is preferably within a 20-meter radius from the exact location.

Method for transmitting and receiving control information in a mobile communication system supporting multimedia broadcast/multicast service

Disclosed is a method for efficiently transmitting and receiving control information messages necessary for a Multimedia Broadcast / Multicast Service (MBMS) provided in a mobile communication system. The method includes setting information elements for the control information messages to reduce unnecessary signaling overhead during the transmission of the control information. The method prevents a user equipment (UE) from performing duplicate reception on the control information, thereby reducing power consumption of a battery.

Method of dynamically controlling cache size

A power saving cache and a method of operating a power saving cache. The power saving cache includes circuitry to dynamically reduce the logical size of the cache in order to save power. Preferably, a method is used to determine optimal cache size for balancing power and performance, using a variety of combinable hardware and software techniques. Also, in a preferred embodiment, steps are used for maintaining coherency during cache resizing, including the handling of modified (“dirty”) data in the cache, and steps are provided for partitioning a cache in one of several way to provide an appropriate configuration and granularity when resizing.

Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) with active energy harvesting and power management

A method of harvesting and managing energy from air currents, by small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) having a plurality of powered and unpowered rotors, to increase the aircraft's flight time, especially where the mission requires extensive hovering and loitering, is provided. Conventional powered rotors create lift for the aircraft. Unpowered rotors can either be: 1) Free-wheeling rotors which increase the plan form area of aircraft as they rotate, increasing lift, and reducing the power draw on the battery, and / or 2) Rotors connected to micro-generators, which serve as a brake on the unpowered rotors, create electrical power to charge the aircraft batteries or directly power the aircraft's electronics. The invention's folding rotor arm design results in a compact package that is easily transported by a single user (man portable). The aircraft can be removed from its protective tube, unfolded and launched for flight in less than a minute. Extended flight times, compact easily transported design, and ability to host flight software on a user's tablet / PC result in low total cost of ownership.

System and method for controlling operation states of a medium access control layer in a broadband wireless access communication system

An apparatus and method for controlling operation states of a medium access control layer by a mobile subscriber station (MSS) in a broadband wireless access communication system. The method includes: state-transitioning into a sleep state or an idle state when there is no data transmitted between a base station and the MSS during a predetermined first time interval in an awake state; and performing a location change in the idle state when the mobile subscriber station moves from a first paging zone to a second paging zone, and state-transiting into the awake state when the mobile subscriber station in the idle state detects a paging to the mobile subscriber station. The method minimizes power consumption and maximizes efficiency in use of radio resources.

Method for power-saving operation of communication terminals in a communication system in especially in a wireless communication systems

In a method of power saving operation of communication terminals in a communication system, at least two operating modes are defined: active and sleep plus optionally standby. Announcements sent out from a master station over an announcement channel are monitored within fixed time windows and thereafter the operating modes of the terminals are controlled. Synchronization information / frame symbols from the master station are also analyzed in the sleep phases and in the standby phases.
