2587 results about "Transmission medium" patented technology

A transmission medium is something that can mediate the propagation of signals for the purposes of telecommunication. Signals are typically imposed on a wave of some kind suitable for the chosen medium. For example, data can modulate sound and a transmission medium for sounds may be air, but solids and liquids may also act as the transmission medium. Vacuum or air constitutes a good transmission medium for electromagnetic waves such as light and radio waves. While material substance is not required for electromagnetic waves to propagate, such waves are usually affected by the transmission media they pass through, for instance by absorption or by reflection or refraction at the interfaces between media. Technical devices can therefore be employed to transmit or guide waves. Thus, an optical fiber or a copper cable are used as transmission media.

A method is provided for communicating signals at a low power level in an electromagnetic interference (EMI) environment. A first device transmits a modulated signal having a first carrier frequency, including the encoded information via a hardwire transmission medium. In one aspect, the power level of the modulated signal can be adjusted to minimize power consumption or reduce the generation of EMI. The modulated signal may be in one of the following formats: frequency modulation (FM) or phase modulation (PM) to name a few examples. A second device including a logarithmic detector amplifier (LDA) demodulator circuit receives the signal, which may be mixed with EMI. Method and apparatus for extending the transmission capability of twisted pair communication systems

A closed loop feedback system is employed in a receiver to automatically compensate the communication signal from twisted pair cables for AC and DC losses. This is accomplished through the use of a reference pulse signal which is sent along with other digital information. At the receiver, the reference pulse signal is restored to its proper level through a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)-controlled variable compensation amplifier circuit. The received reference signal is compared to a known reference value and the duty cycle of the PWM circuit is adjusted until the proper level reference signal is achieved. Thereafter, the digital signal is extracted. OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) with pilot tones are used to maximize payload while minimizing crosstalk effects. The pilot tones locate the OFDM symbols in time while supplying compensation information concerning the transmission medium.

Priority assignment and transmission of sensor data

Prioritized transmission of data from a mobile device, where the mobile device includes the ability to transmit data using more than one transmission medium, includes generating data packets from sensor data. The data packet is then assigned a priority level based on the sensor data and various factors relating to the transmission mediums. The priority level may be assigned based on the transmission availability, bandwidth and cost of using the medium. The data packets, based on the assigned priority level, are then stored in a corresponding priority buffer associated with a transmission device using one of the transmission mediums. When available, the transmission device may then readily transmit the data packet from the priority buffer. Therefore, the data is transferred in a prioritized order based, in part, on the transmission medium and factors relating to the medium, as well as the sensor data being transmitted.

Information processing apparatus and method, information processing system, and transmission medium

When a user gets interested in some music he / she listens to somewhere, for example, in a coffee shop, the user records that music in a memory provided in a portable terminal. A processor reads the information stored in the memory and performs a predetermined process on it. The resultant information is stored on a storage device. The information stored on the storage device is then transferred to a server via a communication device. The server searches the database for the title of the music corresponding to the received information, and returns the result to the terminal. Thus, the user can easily get information about the title of the music.
