The antimicrobial composition may include from about 0.01% to about 10% of the antimicrobial agent, by weight of the antimicrobial composition. The antimicrobial agent may comprise polyhexanide (PHMB). In some embodiments, the antimicrobial composition may comprise a matrix-forming material. The antimicrobial composition may include at least 90% of the matrix-forming material, by weight of the antimicrobial composition. The matrix-forming material may comprise collagen, oxidized regenerated cellulose, alginate, carboxymethylcellulose, or combinations thereof.
