Hectorite is a rare soft, greasy, white clay mineral with a chemical formula of Na0.3(Mg,Li)3Si4O10(OH)2. Hectorite was first described in 1941 and named for an occurrence in the United States near Hector (in San Bernardino County, California, 30 miles east of Barstow.) Hectorite occurs with bentonite as an alteration product of clinoptilolite from volcanic ash and tuff with a high glass content. Hectorite is also found in the beige/brown clay ghassoul, mined in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.

This invention relates to a rubber composition which contains intercalated and at least partially exfoliated organophillic clay reinforcement formed in situ within the elastomer host from a hydrophilic clay. The invention particularly relates to an in situ modification of a hydrophilic clay to compatibilize the clay with a diene-based elastomer. The clay is converted from being hydrophilic in nature to being more hydrophobic in nature and therefore more compatible with the elastomer by bulk blending the elastomer host with a smectite clay, preferably a montmorillonite or hectorite clay, and a hydrocarbyl onium salt, such as for example a quaternary ammonium salt, and particularly in the absence of water addition to the elastomer host. Therefore, such in situ procedure of intercalation and at least partially exfoliation relies upon a bulk blending thereof with an elastomer host at an elevated temperature and under high shear conditions in contrast to pre-intercalating the clay in an aqueous based medium and in contrast to simple low viscosity melt processing of a thermoplastic polymer. The invention also relates to articles of manufacture, including tires, having at least one component comprised of such rubber composition. Such tire component may be, for example, a tire tread.

This invention relates to a rubber composition which contains intercalated and at least partially exfoliated organophillic clay reinforcement formed in situ within the elastomer host from a hydrophilic clay. The invention particularly relates to an in situ modification of a hydrophilic clay to compatibilize the clay with a diene-based elastomer. Stable ASA (Alkenyl Succinic Anhydride) papermaking sizing emulsion and preparation method thereof

The invention relates to the technical field of papermaking sizing agents, in particular to stable ASA (Alkenyl Succinic Anhydride) papermaking sizing emulsion. The stable ASA papermaking sizing emulsion comprises deionized water, ASA, hectorite and urea, wherein the mass ratio of the ASA to the deionized water is 1:(0.8-4); the mass ratio of the hectorite to the ASA is 1:(20-200); and the mass ratio of the urea to the hectorite is 1:(2-100). The preparation method comprises the following steps of: dispersing the hectorite with the deionized water to obtain a hectorite colloid; dissolving the urea in residual deionized water to prepare an aqueous solution of the urea; mixing the hectorite colloid with the aqueous solution of the urea; adjusting the pH value to be 5-8; and then uniformly mixing the mixture with the ASA to obtain the ASA papermaking sizing emulsion. According to the invention, the consumption of an emulsifying agent is little; no traditional surfactant is used; the emulsion has high concentration, favorable stability and high sizing efficiency; the preparation method is simple in process; the emulsification cost is low; and the sizing efficiency of the obtained emulsion can be greatly increased.

The invention provides a carbon-nitrogen hybrid material of a lamellar structure and an application thereof. The preparation method of the carbon-nitrogen hybrid material of lamellar structure comprises the following steps: (1) dispersing a layered template material in water, adding a carbon-nitrogen material to perform exchange adsorption, centrifugally separating, washing with water and drying to obtain granular materials, wherein the layered template material is one of the following ingredients: hectorite, bentonite, kaolinite, ammonium soapstone, fluorine soapstone, attapulgite and pyrophyllite; (2) putting the granular materials in a constant temperature region of a tubular furnace, increasing the temperature of the tubular furnace from the room temperature to 350-650 DEG C at a speed of 1-10 DEG C / min, holding the temperature to react for 2-8h to obtain a layered carbon-nitrogen compound composite material; and (3) adding hydrofluoric acid in the layered carbon-nitrogen compound composite material to remove the template material to obtain the carbon-nitrogen hybrid material of lamellar structure. Novel carbon-nitrogen hybrid material with a lamellar structure is synthesized by the preparation method of the invention for the first time, and the material is used as a catalyst to greatly improve the conversion rate of methanol dehydration reaction.
