System and method for multi-view face detection

A system and method for real-time multi-view (i.e. not just frontal view) face detection. The system and method uses a sequence of detectors of increasing complexity and face / non-face discriminating thresholds to quickly discard non-faces at the earliest stage possible, thus saving much computation compared to prior art systems. The detector-pyramid architecture for multi-view face detection uses a coarse-to-fine and simple-to-complex scheme. This architecture solves the problem of lengthy processing that precludes real-time face detection effectively and efficiently by discarding most of non-face sub-windows using the simplest possible features at the earliest possible stage. This leads to the first real-time multi-view face detection system which has the accuracy almost as good as the state-of-the-art system yet 270 times faster, allowing real-time performance.

High speed high density electrical connector

An electrical connector includes a wafer formed with a ground shield made from a non-conductive material made conductive with conductive particles disposed therein, thereby eliminating the necessity of the metal ground shield plate found in prior art connectors while maintaining sufficient performance characteristics and minimizing electrical noise generated in the wafer. The wafer housing is formed with a first, insulative housing at least partially surrounding a pair of signal strips and a second, conductive housing at least partially surrounding the first, insulative housing and the signal strips. The housings provide the wafer with sufficient structural integrity, obviating the need for additional support structures or components for a wafer. Ground strips may be employed in the wafer and may be formed in the same plane as the signal strips. The second, conductive housing may be connected (e.g., molded) to the ground strips and spaced appropriately from the signal strips. The wafer may also include air gaps between the signal strips of one wafer and the conductive housing of an adjacent wafer further reducing electrical noise or other losses (e.g., cross-talk) without sacrificing significant signal strength.

Safe state recognition system for people on basis of machine vision

The invention discloses a safe state recognition system for people on the basis of machine vision, aiming to solve the problem that the corresponding intelligent control decision for the vehicle driving behaviour can not be formulated according to the safe state of the people in the prior art. The method comprises the following steps: collecting a vehicle-mounted dynamic video image; detecting and recognizing a pedestrian in an interested area in front of a vehicle; tracking a moving pedestrian; detecting and calculating the distance of pedestrian in front of the vehicle; and obtaining vehicle real-time speed; and recognizing the safe state of the pedestrian. The process of recognizing the safe state of the pedestrian comprises the following steps: building a critical conflict area; judging the safe state when the pedestrian is out of the conflict area in the relative moving process; and judging the safe state when the pedestrian is in the conflict area in the relative moving process. Whether the pedestrian enters a dangerous area can be predicted by the relative speed and the relative position of a motor vehicle and the pedestrian, which are obtained by a vision sensor in the above steps. The safe state recognition system can assist drivers in adopting measures to avoid colliding pedestrians.

Thin-film field-effect transistor with organic semiconductor requiring low operating voltages

A thin film transistor (TFT) device structure based on an organic semiconductor material, that exhibits a high field effect mobility, high current modulation and a low sub-threshold slope at lower operating voltages than the current state of the art organic TFT devices. The structure comprises a suitable substrate disposed with he following sequence of features: a set of conducting gate electrodes covered with a high dielectric constant insulator, a layer of the organic semiconductor, sets of electrically conducting source and drain electrodes corresponding to each of the gate lines, and an optional passivation layer that can overcoat and protect the device structure. Use of high dielectric constant gate insulators exploits the unexpected gate voltage dependence of the organic semiconductor to achieve high field effect mobility levels at very low operating voltages. Judicious combinations of the choice of this insulator material and the means to integrate it into the TFT structure are taught that would enable easy fabrication on glass or plastic substrates and the use of such devices in flat panel display applications.

[Automated system and method for providing accurate, non-invasive insurance status verification]

InactiveUS20050209892A1Limiting featureCurrent failureFinanceSpecial data processing applicationsData streamNon invasive
The present invention relates generally to automatic insurance verification, and more specifically, to a non-invasive method and system for automatically determining, by any person with computer, wireless, or telephone access and in real-time, if an insured object of value is or is not insured irrespective of insurer location, jurisdiction, language, type, time, and also the internal operations, software platform and communications protocols used by insurers and / or governmental entities. It is an insurance verification, not an insurance reporting or tracking system and because it maintains no personal data of any kind, and can modify no record, it can deliver only very limited features regarding reporting or tracking. The present invention can however, provide absolute assurance of current insurance status at all times, provides a unique method of access which resolves all current failures and is non-invasive, providing complete privacy for all parties involved, (the absence of all personal information and the access method used ensures that all access and data is inherently non-invasive). This invention further ensures that any check of status, at insurer or governmental registration, (including “e-registration”, inspection, or any other location and time when and where a jurisdiction or insurer requires such a status check, will result in an instant and totally accurate status response. This system is based upon the assignment of a unique identifier, also known in this present art as a “UC” or “Unique Code” which then provides a method of accurate data, (including status checks), without reliance on “VINs”, (vehicle identification numbers), policy number or other identifiers which are often incorrect. The UC is assigned to any combination of two or more elements that are “gleaned”, (file field extraction and related system and methods), one of which is always current status. The extraction of these selected fields from data streams may be done by a number of prior art techniques, and the three most common have been detailed. First demonstrated to government officials in 1999 as a medical version and later the same year as a vehicle version, it has been demonstrated and documented since to a great many Federal and State governmental entities. This present invention has also been demonstrated to several foreign governments but incorporates no technologies that create any possible security risk for any government, insurer, individual, and especially to the national security of the United States.

Integrated Filter Feedthrough Assemblies Made From Low Temperature Co-Fired (LTCC) Tape

A filter capacitor comprising a substrate of at least one layer of a low temperature co-fires ceramic (LTCC) tape supporting alternating active and ground electrode layers segregated by a dielectric layer is described. The substrate is preferably a laminate of three LTCC tapes pieces that are heated under pressure and at a relatively low temperature to become a laminate that maintains its shape and structure dimensions even after undergoing numerous sintering steps. Consequently, relatively thin active and ground electrode layers along with the intermediate dielectric layer can be laid down or deposited on the LTCC substrate by a screen-printing technique. A second laminate of LTCC tapes is positioned on top of the active / dielectric / ground layers to finish the capacitor. Consequently, a significant amount of space is saved in comparison to a comparably rated capacitor or, a capacitor of a higher rating can be provided in the same size as a conventional prior art capacitor.

Structure and fabrication of an MRAM cell

MTJ stacks formed using prior art processes often fail because of shorts between the pinned layer and the top electrode. This problem has been overcome by depositing a protective layer on the MTJ sidewalls followed by an inter-layer dielectric. Then planarizing until the protective layer is just exposed. Finally, an etching (or second CMP) process is used to selectively remove the protective layer from the top surface of the cap layer.

Seamless digital streaming over different device types

The claimed invention provides a single generic solution by treating live video capture as any other running application on the end-user screen. This allows the technique of capturing consecutive snapshots of a running application window to be applicable to live video capture as well. Specifically, the invention captures and generates video streams for the different content types as follows: (1) live video. Unlike prior art approaches where the capturing software interacts directly with an on-board camera, the invention interacts with and streams the camera playback window; (2) Static video. Rather than streaming directly off the video file, the invention enables the video file to be played on the screen and the playback window to be captured and streamed; and (3) View of running application and view of user desktop. The invention takes consecutive snapshots of an application window or desktop, generates video out of the snapshots, and streams it.
