Embodiments of the invention relate to systems and methods for multi-player gaming. Some embodiments relate to systems having an improved communications infrastructure and improved handheld game controllers, while other embodiments relate to improvements in handling large numbers of players in the multi-player game when played in a game arena with a single large display screen showing the multi-player game images. In one particular embodiment, a system is provided that has a game server controlling a display system to display the multi-player game on the large screen and a plurality of game controllers. Each game controller has a secondary display means for providing a secondary game display and input means for receiving player input. The system further comprises communication mans for enabling communication between the game server and each of the plurality of game controllers. The plurality of game controllers are located in proximity to the large display screen such that it is visible to game players manipulating the game controllers while playing the multi-player game.

Cockpit display system

A cockpit display system has a display, such as a multi-function display (MFD) for displaying a graphical representation of an input device when a sensor senses that an aviator's finger is proximate to the input device. The display graphically depicts in real-time the position of the aviator's finger relative to the buttons of the input device. The aviator's finger can be depicted by an icon, shading or highlighting. When the aviator lightly touches a button, the graphical representation of that button can for example be highlighted, shaded or colored. Furthermore, when the button is firmly depressed, the graphical representation of that button can change color or shading. The aviator can thus operate any awkwardly located input device by simply reaching toward the input device and then guiding his finger to the correct button by looking at the graphical representation of the input device.

Interactive legacy applications can be run from a network, such as the Internet, without requiring any code changes in the application. Typically, legacy applications are critical to a business, are self-contained on the computer, have mixed business and user interface logic, and were written before distributed computing emerged. Separating business logic from user interface logic as required by web application architectures is not practicable in the case of legacy applications. A client has a network user agent which can access a network server connected to the computer. When an application is invoked from the network user agent, a runtime data redirector intercepts the application's raw data and sends the data to the network server which then serves the data across the network to the network user agent. Input data from the user entered through the network user agent are sent back to the application via the same runtime intercept.

Color naming, color categorization and describing color composition of images

The invention provides methods, systems and apparatus for assigning color names to individual image pixels, and generating verbal description of color composition in images, suitable for a wide variety of information processing applications. For an isolated image pixel (individual color sample or color value) an illustrative embodiment of this invention uses a predetermined vocabulary of color names, and then generates a distance measure describing the best color match and corresponding color name for the given pixel. For the input image, an illustrative embodiment of this invention computes the simplified representation of the scene, consistent with human perception, and uses the predetermined vocabulary, syntax rules and metric to assign color names to all perceptually significant objects and regions and obtain the verbal description of the overall color composition. The invention is also applicable to other types of information signals, such as sequences of video frames, web pages, etc.

The invention relates to a system and method called autotopology of a network or advertising based network management which enables the analysis and automatic graphical and hierarchical representation of any hierarchical or flat network topology, especially a switched Ethernet (SE).
