1066 results about "User agent" patented technology

In computing, a user agent is software (a software agent) that is acting on behalf of a user, such as a web browser that "retrieves, renders and facilitates end user interaction with Web content". An email reader is a mail user agent.

System and method for adaptation of peer-to-peer multimedia sessions

A system and method is provided that allows proxy servers to receive capability and preference information concerning user agents (502 and 510) desiring to establish a media session. The proxy server compares the capabilities of the user agents and determines whether an incompatibility exists between them. In the event that an incompatibility does exist, the proxy server may invoke the services of an adaptation server (508) to provide the necessary adaptation required to allow the media session to proceed. The adaptation system allows either the terminating or originating proxy server to make the adaptation determination to allow the adaptation server to modify the offered media session descriptions so that the media streams may be routed through the adaptation server to adapt between incompatible media parameters.

Security attack detection and defense

Detecting an attack on an authentication service. A first memory area is configured to store data relating to a plurality of requests communicated to an authentication service from a plurality of user agents. A second memory area is configured to store a predefined pattern of one or more requests. The predefined pattern characterizes an attack. A processor searches the stored data as a function of a query variable to identify at least one of the plurality of the requests communicated from at least one of the plurality of the user agents and compares the stored data associated with each of the identified requests with the predefined pattern to determine whether the identified request indicates the attack characterized by the predefined pattern. Other aspects of the invention are directed to computer-readable media for use with detecting the attack on the authentication service.

Web content customization via adaptation Web services

A user agent in a Web access device transmits an HTTP request for Web content to an origin server. The request contains a set of capabilities of the Web access device. A content authoring mechanism and adaptation determination service on the origin server process the request to determine what transformation is required to make the requested content fit the capabilities of the Web access device. The adaptation determination service invokes a niche transformation service that performs, in response to the content and the capabilities, the necessary transformation. The transformed Web content is transmitted to the user agent.

Brokering state information and identity among user agents, origin servers, and proxies

Methods, signals, devices, and systems are provided for using proxy servers to transparently forward messages between clients and origin servers if, and only if doing so does not violate network policies. In some systems, a transparent proxy uses a combination of standard-format HTTP commands, embedding auxiliary information in URLs and other tools and techniques to redirect an initial client request to one or more policy modules, such as a login server or an identity broker or an access control server. The policy module authenticates the request, and uses HTTP redirection to have the client transmit authorization data to the proxy. The proxy extracts the authorization data, directs the client to use a corresponding cookie, and subsequently provides the implicitly requested proxy services to the client in response to the client's subsequently providing the authorization data in a cookie. This is accomplished without requiring installation of any invention-specific software or hardware on either the client or the origin server, and also works with proxy servers that are known to the client. Unless the client request violates network policy, a person using the client will generally perceive no reduction of services, and will instead benefit from the proxy's caching and / or other performance enhancements.

Synchronization method

The invention relates to methods for managing state information associated with user agents in systems utilizing the wireless application protocol. According to the invention, the user agent indicates in the header information of a WAP message such as a request to the cookie proxy that the user agent currently has a session having associated state information, when the user agent has received header information indicating the presence of a cookie during the current session. This informs the cookie proxy that it should continue storing the cookies associated with the current session. When the cookie proxy receives for the next time a WAP message without such indication, it can assume that a new session has started, in which case the cookie proxy can discard all cookies bound to the previous session unless certain parameters of certain cookies explicitly indicate that they should not be discarded at that moment. Further, in an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the cookie proxy can indicate to the user agent that it has no cookies associated with the current session. The invention allows the synchronization of the user agent and the cookie proxy.

Terminal based device profile web service

A method and device are disclosed for reporting capability of a mobile device, in order to improve experiences of the user of the mobile device. This capability reporting is accomplished by a web service that makes available a device profile from a device profile repository located within the mobile device. The web service utilizes reverse hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) binding for simple object access protocol (SOAP). Enhanced content is subsequently received at the mobile device, such as content in an improved format, and the enhanced content is based at least partly upon the capability of the mobile device disclosed by the web service. If a characteristic of the mobile device changes, thereby causing a modification of the capability of the mobile device for accepting a type of enhanced content, an update signal is sent to the device profile. The device profile is a user agent profile or variation thereof.

Methods and apparatus for producing a user-controlled PLMN list for a SIM/USIM card with use of a user agent application

Methods and apparatus for producing a user-controlled PLMN list for a SIM / USIM card with use of a user agent application are disclosed. Selection indication data corresponding to at least one of a plurality of network attribute type preferences is received at the user agent application. The selection indication data may be received through a user interface of the user equipment, a user application of the user equipment, or both. The at least one selected network attribute type preference is indicative of a preference to prioritize network selection based on at least one network attribute type of a plurality of network attributes types (e.g. cost, bandwidth, quality, number of available features, etc.). A list of network identifications associated with a plurality of wireless communication networks is ranked in accordance with a ranking of network attributes of the at least one selected network attribute type made available by the plurality of wireless communication networks. The ranked list of network identifications is then stored as a user-controlled PLMN list in the SIM / USIM. An automatic network selection process may then be performed with use of the user-controlled PLMN list. As apparent, network selection may be controlled and facilitated by the end user in a more conceptual fashion. Other additional and alternative advantageous features are described in the detailed description.
