LED device for wide beam generation

ActiveUS20070201225A1High intensityEliminate seam and any optical discontinuityPlanar light sourcesMechanical apparatusOptical transfer functionWide beam
An apparatus and method is characterized by providing an optical transfer function between a predetermined illuminated surface pattern, such as a street light pattern, and a predetermined energy distribution pattern of a light source, such as that from an LED. A lens is formed having a shape defined by the optical transfer function. The optical transfer function is derived by generating an energy distribution pattern using the predetermined energy distribution pattern of the light source. Then the projection of the energy distribution pattern onto the illuminated surface is generated. The projection is then compared to the predetermined illuminated surface pattern to determine if it acceptably matches. The process continues reiteratively until an acceptable match is achieved. Alternatively, the lens shape is numerically or analytically determined by a functional relationship between the shape and the predetermined illuminated surface pattern and predetermined energy distribution pattern of a light source as inputs.

Method of implementing the kerr effect in an integrated ring resonator (the kerr integrated optical ring filter) to achieve all-optical wavelength switching, as well as all-optical tunable filtering, add-and -drop multiplexing, space switching and optical intensity modulation

The present invention relates to an integrated optical ring resonator waveguide surrounded by an upper bus and a lower bus waveguide. A first resonant and intense optical wave is coupled into the upper bus whereas a second resonant optical wave is coupled into the lower bus. These resonant waves propagate from one bus to the other through the resonator in opposite directions. The first wave modulates the core refractive index of the resonator (Kerr effect) and thereby shifts the resonant conditions of the resonator. This results in the amplitude modulation of the second wave at its non-resonant port. Through this process, the optical amplitude modulation pattern of the first wave is transferred to the second wave. Optical wavelength switching is achieved when the waves have different wavelengths. In alternative embodiments and methods of driving the resonator, the resonator can achieve filtered wavelength tuning, add-and-drop multiplexing, space switching and intensity modulation.

Optical system for detecting anomalies and/or features of surfaces

A surface inspection of the system applies a first oblique illumination beam and may also apply a second illumination beam to illuminate a surface either sequentially or simultaneously. Radiation reflected or scattered is collected by preferably three collection channels and detected by three corresponding detector arrays, although a different number of channels and detector arrays may be used. One or both illumination beams are focused to a line on the surface to be inspected and each line is imaged onto one or more detector arrays in the up to three or more detection and collection channels. Relative motion is caused between the lines and the surface inspected in a direction perpendicular to the lines, thereby increasing throughput while retaining high resolution and sensitivity. The same detection channels may be employed by detecting scattered or reflected radiation from both illumination beams. Fourier filters may be employed to filter out diffraction at one or more different spatial frequencies.

Optical techniques and system for 3-D characterization of ultrasound beams

A system for optically characterizing an acoustic beam generally includes an immersant, which is an immersion medium seeded with a plurality of seed particles that respond to illumination with fluorescence indicative of at least one parameter of the immersant such as flow or temperature. Optical transmitters illuminate the immersant slicewise, and optical receptors receive the fluorescence in order to generate a three-dimensional map of the parameter over time. The processor initially generates a behavior model of an acoustic beam propagating in the immersant by utilizing initial guesses for the characteristics. The initial guess model is compared to the map, and an optimization routine is used to refine the initial guesses. The process repeats iteratively with refined guesses until the difference between the model and the map is minimized.

Method for making shock-resistant and energy-dissipating framework by mixing resin concrete and reinforced concrete

InactiveCN101718113AEffective seismic response reductionLow initial construction costShock proofingRebarPlastic hinge
The invention relates to a method for making a shock-resistant and energy-dissipating framework by mixing resin concrete and reinforced concrete, which comprises the following six steps of: (1) reserving a position of the framework, at which a plastic hinge is possible to emerge, and pouring other parts of the framework according to an original construction design; (2) conserving the concrete poured in the framework for 14 days, carving burrs from the concrete around the reserved position, clearing gravels and dust off and cleaning the surface by acetone; (3) priming a layer with a thickness of 3 to 5mm by resin cement; (4) supporting a template at the reserved position; (5) preparing and pouring the resin concrete; and (6) standing and conserving the resin concrete framework over 10 DEG C for 72 hours and stripping a mold. Because the ultimate compression strain of the resin concrete is far greater than that of the ordinary concrete, the resin concrete is filled at an appropriate position in an ordinary reinforced concrete framework to form a mixed framework structure. Therefore, the framework can consume earthquake energy on the premise of not being damaged entirely. The method has a practical value in the technical field of civil engineering.
