According to the invention, the on-line methyl esterification, the solid-phase microextraction and the gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrum technology are adopted, the five steps of methyl esterification, extraction, enrichment, sampling and detection are completed at the same time during one process, the operation is simple, and the consumed time is short; moreover, water acts as a base body during the methyl esterification reaction, so that the competitive adsorption of an extracting head to methyl alcohol and volatile substances is lowered, and the extraction and pre-enrichment of fatty acid methyl ester by the solid phase microextraction are improved effectively; and the minimum detection limit of fatty acid is 0.001-0.049 micro g / L, and is obviously lower than the minimum detection limit, 4.0mg / L, of an internal standard method which is used for performing quantitative determination on oil fatty acid.

The present invention provides a process whereby pre-enrichment of water streams using a hydrogen source and a catalytic isotope exchange method at one or more remote sites to supply water with augmented deuterium concentration to a central heavy water. This central heavy water plant could be a Combined Electrolysis and Catalytic Exchange (“CECE”) heavy water production plant or a Girdler Sulfide heavy water plant. The deuterium content of water at the remote sites is increased and provides water stream(s) with augmented deuterium concentration to feed to the central heavy water production plant. This could be a first stage of the central CECE deuterium enrichment plant, increasing its capacity for heavy water production approximately in the ratio of its enrichment above natural deuterium concentrations. By relatively simple utilization of available deuterium enrichment capacity at the remote sites, advantages are achieved from a larger scale of heavy water production at the central production plant. The invention further provides systems and methods for adapting chlorate and chlorine dioxide systems which produce hydrogen to additionally produce deuterium-enriched water.

The present invention relates to concentrating disease causing agents, such as foodborne pathogens, from complex media to expedite their detection. In particular, the present invention relates to a method to pre-concentrate pathogens rapidly, thereby enabling earlier detection times. Primarily, the present invention utilizes an approach that can concentrate the pathogens by flowing a sample through immuno-capturing tubes (“entrapment chamber” or “chamber”) during an early pre-enrichment period. Also, the invention relates to using binding materials to trap disease causing agent that is desired to be removed from the complex media such as the blood of a patient. It also related to using lights of specific wavelength to inactivate pathogens. The light is used to activate reactive oxygen species using a photo-sensitizer or directly kill the pathogen using light of wavelength between 100 nm and 450 nm.

An MSTT culture medium is filled in a capillary tube, and per 1L of the culture medium, comprises the following components: 5.0-10.0 g of peptone, 0-5.0 g of a beef extract, 0-3.0 g of sodium chloride, 1.0-5.0 g of bile salts, 30.0-50.0 g of sodium thiosulfate, 9-10 mg of brilliant green, 4.0-5.0 g of iodine, 5.0-6.0 g of potassium iodide, 2.5-3.0 g of agar, 0 or 20-40 mg of novobiocin, and the balance of water. According to the invention, the capillary tube culture method and the MSTT culture medium are adopted for detecting salmonella, and salmonella pre-enrichment and enrichment steps are merged, so that a lot of time is saved, and the detection time is reduced by at least 24 h; and samples are subjected to preliminary screening by using a capillary tube culture method, so that a lot of subsequent separation and identification processes are saved.
