LDH is generated on the surface of commercial cloth by a hydrothermal method in an in-situ manner so as to improve the roughness of the cloth; then a substance with low surface energy is modified to obtain the super-hydrophobic cloth. The super-hydrophobic cloth prepared by the process comprises a cloth fiber layer and a super-hydrophobic LDH sheet layer, wherein the super-hydrophobic LDH sheet layer is formed by an LDH nanosheet which is irregularly and vertically attached on the cloth fiber layer, the chemical structural formula of the LDH nanosheet is [Mg<2+>(1-x)Al<3+>x(OH)2]<x+>[NO3<->]x.mH2O, wherein x represents one numerical value between 0 and 1, and the thickness of the LDH sheet layer is 300-1000nm. The prepared cloth has a contact angle more than 150 degrees, has good oil-water separation capability, can achieve high separation efficiency (up to 97%) to oil water mixture with different ingredients and different volume ratios, and has low relative standard deviation less than 0.7%. The LDH modified super-hydrophobic cloth has important significance on separation of oil water mixture, treatment on pollution of rivers, lakes and the sea caused by petroleum and non-insoluble oil stain.
