A computer-implemented automated building design and modeling and construction project cost estimating and scheduling system (“DMES system”) is described. The DMES system provides a central source for all of the design and construction information for a construction project in a coordinated two-dimensional and three-dimensional spatial database that is freely accessible by all of the members of an interdisciplinary construction project team as a means to produce automatically coordinated design development and construction document information. The DMES system acquires and stores all of the appropriate design, engineering, and construction expertise and information available for any building type for use in automatically assembling and coordinating the design, cost-estimating, and scheduling for a construction project. In one embodiment, the DMES system consists of a plurality of objects, comprising elements and massing elements arranged in an assembly hierarchy. Each of the objects includes programming code that defines an interface and discrete internal functions that define its behavior. When instantiated in the database, the objects automatically create further instances of other objects in the hierarchy, which in turn do the same, thus assembling a complete building model automatically from the initial manually-placed instance. The building model enables automatic generation of drawings and cost and scheduling information. By running automatic iterations of the building model, multiple designs may be evaluated to determine the optimum design.

A finite element pre processing method for reconstructing a three-dimensional entity model comprises the steps that first, a material object is scanned so that point cloud data can be acquired; second, the point cloud data are imported to 3-matic software, and the position of the model is adjusted; third, the point cloud data are de-noised and sampled; fourth, three-dimensional reconstructing of the point cloud data is performed through a computer, wherein the point cloud data are packaged so that a surface mesh model can be generated; fifth, thin wall characteristic analysis is performed on the model so that a basic model structure can be known; sixth, three-dimensional repair is performed on model meshes, so that the edges of the model are matched with the defect contour of the material object; seventh, the model is redesigned as required, and thus the structure of the model can be more reasonable and meet the design requirement; eighth, the meshes of the redesigned model are partitioned again; ninth, a volume mesh is generated, material attributes are added, and the new model is saved in the format through which finite elements can be directly analyzed; tenth, finite elements are analyzed. Through the method, the scanned data processing time is shortened and FEA / CFD pre processing time are shortened, and optimal design of the model can be conveniently performed.

Global statistical optimization, characterization, and design

For application to analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital circuits, a system and method to do: global statistical optimization (GSO), global statistical characterization (GSC), global statistical design (GSD), and block-specific design. GSO can perform global yield optimization on hundreds of variables, with no simplifying assumptions. GSC can capture and display mappings from design variables to performance, across the whole design space. GSC can handle hundreds of design variables in a reasonable time frame, e.g., in less than a day, for a reasonable number of simulations, e.g., less than 100,000. GSC can capture design variable interactions and other possible nonlinearities, explicitly capture uncertainties, and intuitively display them. GSD can support the user's exploration of design-to-performance mappings with fast feedback, thoroughly capturing design variable interactions in the whole space, and allow for more efficiently created, more optimal designs. Block-specific design should make it simple to design small circuit blocks, in less time and with lower overhead than optimization through optimization.

Dynamic Terahertz Switch Using Periodic Corrugated Structures

A subwavelength terahertz (THz) switch using an artificially designed conductor metamaterial is discussed in this invention. Theoretically, slow-light EM wave propagating at THz speed imitates the strongly localized surface plasmon modes and henceforth is called Spoof Surface Plasmon Polariton (SSPP) mode in this invention. The SSPP mode of slow-light EM propagation can be easily tailored by changing the refractive index of the dielectric materials inside the metallic gap structure engineered as a periodic array of grooves. Thus, the incorporation of electro-optical material which has birefringence such as a nematic liquid crystal (N-LC) or multiple-refractive indices into the metallic gap leads to a highly compact and efficient terahertz switch being controlled by a low-voltage signal. The optimal design of the SSPP switch enabled by this novel method shows many interesting properties including 1) strong subwavelength localization; 2) relatively high extinction (On / Off switching) ratio; and 3) small damping attenuation. The THz dynamic switches can be used to construct linear switches, Y junction switches and Mach-Zehnder interferometers by using micromachining and other fabrication techniques.

Choice modelling system and method

Choice experiments are a type of survey which can be used to model user behaviour, in which survey respondents are presented with a choice of combinations of features and forced to one set of features. A computational system for performing choice modelling is described. This system comprises a user interface module, that allows an end users to specify what they set of features they wish to investigate (the attribute space), and constraints. A design generator module is used to generate an experimental design that matches the user defined attribute space. A range of different designs can be generated and compared to identify the optimum design. The design generator allows the user to specify their exact problem, rather than forcing them to modify their problem to match a known experimental design. An online survey assembly module is used to generate survey templates and a data collection and sampling uses the templates to display treatments to the respondents. A model generation model analyses the collected data, and a model explorer module is provided to allow the user to explore the results. The system has the advantage of making choice modelling accessible to a wider range of users, and enables users considerable freedom and scope to investigate problems of specific interest.

A flat wide-angle objective of the invention consists of a first sub-unit that is located on the object side of the objective and comprises an assembly of two conventional aspheric negative, e.g., aspheric piano-concave lenses, and a second sub-unit in the form of a set of four microlens arrays arranged on the image-receiving side of the objective. The microlenses of all microlens arrays have the same arrangement of microlenses in all the arrays. The objective of the invention can be realized into an optimal design only with predetermined relationships between the parameters of the optical system that forms the objective. The invention makes it possible to drastically reduce longitudinal dimension of the objective. In operation, the first sub-unit creates an imaginary image of the object in its focal plane, which is located on object side of the objective, while the second sub-unit creates an actual image of the object in the image plane on the image-receiving side of the objective. In this case, the function of the object plane is fulfilled by the aforementioned focal plane of the first sub-unit that contains the imaginary image of the real object.

Once hollowed and filled netlists, and data-path and design constraint files have been generated from a design in a standard fashion, the implementation of that design onto an FPGA in an optimized fashion is automated by providing a computer program that is capable of implementing the design, testing the design, evaluating the test results, and altering the design to arrive at a more optimal design. The process may include several steps, such as initial placement of logic groups, sizing of logic groups and FPGA selection, timing analysis, and filled netlist complete design review. High-power dual-port output silicon-based tunable external cavity laser

The invention relates to a high-power dual-port output silicon-based tunable external cavity laser. A hybrid integration scheme is adopted, a low-cost low-loss silicon-based microring waveguide chip is used as an external cavity medium wavelength adjustment unit, end surface coupling with an III-V group reflective semiconductor gain tube core is realized through two collimating lenses, the structure is simple, the complex process limitations of a monolithic integrated semiconductor laser are overcome, no moving part exists in the external cavity, and the reliability and the stability can be effectively improved. Through optimal design of the silicon-based microring waveguide chip structure, the nonlinear optical effect generation probability of laser in a silicon-based waveguide microring resonator is greatly reduced, and the maximum optical power which is allowed to be outputted by the laser of the structure is improved. Due to addition of a band pass filter in the external cavity collimating light path, technical requirements on the silicon-based microring waveguide chip can be effectively reduced, the coupling packaging efficiency can be improved, and low-cost batch production is facilitated.
