> The stable state of an electron in an atom is its lowest possible energy level, but an electron can be in a higher energy level for a while. Eventually it can drop to a lower energy level, which releases a photon. They make it sound as if the atom generates energy out of nothing.

Base plate processing device, base plate processing method and progarm

An etching apparatus 100 as the substrate processing apparatus is provided with a rotary arm 103 for carrying a substrate included in a lot, and process chambers 106 and 107 for carrying out etching to the substrate as product processing. The etching apparatus 100 is controlled by a host computer 200 in which a transportation recipe, a recipe for product processing and a recipe for dummy processing are registered. When a chamber neglecting time being each neglecting time of the process chambers 106 and 107 does not become time out, the host computer 200 discriminates that processing atmosphere in the process chambers used for etching to the lot is stable, omits the execution of the dummy processing, and executes etching to the substrate of the lot.

Pullout spray head with single-button mode selector

A spray head for a faucet or the like has a wand body defining a flow path from an inlet to first and second outlets. Diverter seats are provided so a face seal on a diverter spool can direct flow to the first or second outlet. The spool is positioned by a trigger acting on cam surfaces formed on a toggle. A spring biases the toggle to one of two stable states. Movement of the spool by the trigger causes the toggle to change states so subsequent actuation of the trigger causes the spool to move in the opposite direction. The wand body also has a pause button that reciprocates in a chamber that is part of the flow path. The chamber includes a valve seat and the pause button has a spool having a face seal that is engageable with the valve seat to shut off flow through the spray head. A return spring causes separation of the pause button's face seal upon release of pressure on the pause button. The pause button's seals in the chamber are arranged to have equal diameters and thus provide balanced hydraulic forces on the spool.

Geometric correction of rough wireframe models derived from photographs

Geometric correction of rough wireframe models derived from photographs may include rectification of either a 2D or 3D original wireframe model of a roof structure, derivation of metadata from the original wireframe, in-plane normalization of the wireframe, extrusion into a “rough” 3D wireframe based on the normalized wireframe, and correction of the “rough” 3D wireframe. The correction and normalization may be an iterative process based on initial pitch values, metadata derived from the original or corrected wireframe models and defined constraints regarding relationships between roof portions or segments. The iterative process may repeat adjusting the wireframe model until the adjusting converges to a stable state according to the various defined constraints.

Re-writeable optical element and a display, reflector and backlight incorporating the same

An optical element (22) comprises a material (27) thermally switchable between a first stable state and a second stable state different from the first state and a switching mechanism (28a-28c) for switching one or more selected areas of the material (27) between the first state and the second state thereby to change the transmissivity of one or more selected areas of the optical element (22). The optical element may be placed in an optical path through another component such as, for example, a display (21), reflector or backlight, such that the optical element may be controlled to change the optical properties of the component. The properties that may be changed include, but are not limited to, the display mode of a display (21), viewing angle range, brightness / luminance, and colour. For example, if the element is substantially non-transmissive for one state of the thermally switchable material, the thermally switchable material may be arranged to provide a parallax barrier, in one state. Thus a display (21) may be switched between a directional display mode, for example a 3D-mode or multi-view display mode, and a conventional 2-D display mode by putting the thermally switchable material into its appropriate state—when the thermally switchable material is put into the non-transmissive state the parallax barrier is enabled, and when the thermally switchable is put into another state the parallax barrier is disabled.

On-line adaptive model predictive control in a process control system

A method of creating and using an adaptive DMC type or other MPC controller includes using a model switching technique to periodically determine a process model, such as a parameterized process model, for a process loop on-line during operation of the process. The method then uses the process model to generate an MPC control model and creates and downloads an MPC controller algorithm to an MPC controller based on the new control model while the MPC controller is operating on-line. This technique, which is generally applicable to single-loop MPC controllers and is particularly useful in MPC controllers with a control horizon of one or two, enables an MPC controller to be adapted during the normal operation of the process, so as to change the process model on which the MPC controller is based to thereby account for process changes. The adaptive MPC controller is not computationally expensive and can therefore be easily implemented within a distributed controller of a process control system, while providing the same or in some cases better control than a PID controller, especially in dead time dominant process loops, and in process loops that are subject to process model mismatch within the process time to steady state.

Electrophoretic display driving approaches

A system and method are disclosed for reducing reverse bias in an electrophoretic display. The system and method include the application of varying levels of voltages across an array of electrophoretic display cells of the electrophoretic display to move the cells towards a stable state in a driving cycle. In addition, the system and method disconnect the voltages from the electrophoretic display cells at a time duration prior to reaching step transitions of the voltages during the driving cycle. Pre-driving approaches apply a first pre-driving voltage at a first polarity to the display cells before driving the display cells with a second driving voltage at a second, opposite polarity. Varying the time duration and amplitude of the pre-driving signals produces further beneficial reduction in reverse bias.

Trail management across transport functionality of large and complex telecommunications networks

A trail management system for a transport network comprises a database storing data describing each of a plurality of actual and intended / planned trails within a network. Each trail is described in terms of a state model, in which the trail is recorded as being in one of a plurality of stable states, e.g. ready for service, not ready for service, existing in the network but not fully recorded in the network management system, or assigned for deletion from the network. The trail data is modified by a set of automatic processes, by means of which a trail data may transition between stable states. Each trail data may adopt one of a plurality of sub-states, e.g. fully provisioned, incomplete, in conflict with another trail, inconsistent with another trail, unprovisioned, or unsupported by network resources. The network management system learns of actual existing trails within the network and checks for consistency of actual trails with stored trail data.

A computer has protected resources presenting threat vectors that malicious software can use to attack the computer. A security module has monitoring components that monitor the protected resources to detect malicious software. The security module detects if a protected resource enters a steady security state. In response to a protected resource entering a steady state, the security module selectively disables the components that monitor the protected resource, thereby conserving the computing resources utilized by the security module and freeing the computing resources for other tasks. If the resource exits the steady security state, the security module temporarily blocks access to the resource while it enables the monitoring components for that resource.

Method and apparatus for network congestion control

The present invention is a delay based model and in fact uses queueing delay as a congestion measure, providing advantages over prior art loss based systems. One advantage is that queueing delay can be more accurately estimated than loss probability. This is because packet losses in networks with large bandwidth-delay product are rare events under TCP Reno and its variants (probability on the order 10−7 or smaller), and because loss samples provide coarser information than queueing delay samples. Indeed, measurements of delay are noisy, just as those of loss probability. Thus, another advantage of the present invention is that each measurement of queueing delay provides multi-bit information while each measurement of packet loss (whether a packet is lost) provides only one bit of information for the filtering of noise. This makes it easier for an equation-based implementation to stabilize a network into a steady state with a target fairness and high utilization. In addition, the dynamics of queueing delay provides scaling with respect to network capacity. This helps maintain stability as a network scales up in capacity.

Semiconductor memory

The object of providing a non-volatile semiconductor memory that stands out by good scalability and a high retention time as well as ensures low switching voltages at low switching times and achieves a great number of switching cycles at good temperature stability is solved by the present invention with a semiconductor memory whose memory cells comprise at least one silicon matrix material layer with open or disturbed nanocrystalline or amorphous network structures and structural voids which has a resistively switching property between two stable states, utilizing the ion drift in the silicon matrix material layer. The memory concept suggested in the present invention thus offers an alternative to the flash and DRAM memory concepts since it is not based on the storing of charges, but on the difference of the electric resistance between two stable states that are caused by the mobility of ions in the amorphous silicon matrix material with an externally applied electric field.

Use of activity bins to increase the performance of disk arrays

A disk array controller reliably improves performance in RAID configurations without the need for a battery backup. Write completion interrupts are queued until a write cache flush has been performed and are then sent to a host system. States of ranges of disk addresses (activity bins) are stored in nonvolatile storage elements associated with the ranges. The states allow rebuild times to be reduced after power failures and drive failures. A range is in a Changing state if at least one of the addresses is the target of a write operation that has been initiated but not completed. The range is in a Stable state if no addresses are the target of an uncompleted write operation. Two additional states are used to identify ranges of disk addresses that have been zeroed or never been written to. The additional states allow substantial reductions in RAID volume creation times.

Dynamic power coordination control method for battery energy storage system

The invention discloses a dynamic power coordination control method for a battery energy storage system. The battery energy storage system comprises a plurality of power converters which supply power to a load and are connected in parallel for operation, and is characterized in that: the power converters connected in parallel for operation are divided into two types, and a master-slave control scheme is adopted, wherein one type comprises only one power converter which adopts a constant voltage constant frequency control mode and is called a master node, and the power converters of the other type adopt a constant power mode with a slight droop characteristic, and serve as slave nodes; generally, a power converter with a high capacity is selected to be the only one master node which is specified by an upper-layer monitoring system, and all the other power converters are the slave nodes; and under a stable state condition, active power and reactive power output by the power converters which serve as the slave nodes are set by a power instruction transmitted by the monitoring system, and the output power of the power converter which serves as the master node is dynamically regulated according to a load condition. The method adopting the master-slave control scheme has the advantages that: on the premise of sufficient power capacity, both the voltage stability and frequency stability of a micro-grid system are easily achieved, anti-load disturbance capability is high, and failure recovery time is short.
