Graphical scroll wheel

A touch screen interface including a display screen, a touch sensor device, and a processor coupled to the display screen and the touch sensor is described. The touch sensor device is adapted to sense object motion in a sensing region that overlaps at least part of the display screen. The processor is adapted to cause a scroll wheel that indicates a scrolling path to appear on the display screen selectively, such as in response to the touch sensor sensing object motion that corresponds to a scrolling initiation gesture. The processor is further adapted to cause scrolling on a display screen selectively, such as in response to the touch sensor sensing subsequent object motion along the scrolling path after the touch sensor has sensed the object motion corresponding to the scrolling initiation gesture.

Methods and systems for interacting, via a hypermedium page, with a virtual machine executing in a terminal services session

A method for making a hypermedium page interactive, the hypermedium page displayed by a network browser, includes the step of selecting a hyperlink on the hypermedium page displayed on a client machine, the hyperlink identifying a desired computing resource. A hyperlink configuration file is retrieved, the hyperlink configuration file corresponding to the hyperlink and identifying a server machine. A client agent is started on the client machine. The client agent creates, via a terminal services session, a communication link to a virtual machine executing on the server identified by the hyperlink configuration file, the virtual machine executed by a hypervisor executing in the terminal services session provided by an operating system executing on the server. The client agent receives data from the virtual machine and displays, on the client machine, the received data without intervention by the network browser.

Method and apparatus for automatic configuration and management of a virtual private network

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for automatic configuration and management of a virtual private network operating over a public data network, and a method and apparatus for delivery of the configuration parameters to client interface equipment participating in the virtual private network. The system defines allowed connections between client and server gateway devices, and the parameters associated with the virtual private network. The system defines methods and apparatus for automatic startup, configuration, and shutdown of nodes of the resulting virtual private network based on factors such as the presence of a configuration carrier device. The present invention also describes a class of pseudo-interface mechanism that can hide the complexity of the underlying system from client devices incorporating the present invention, via a conventional network device interface.

System and method for hot deployment/redeployment in grid computing environment

A technique for hot deploying / redeploying applications in a grid computing environment to improve operating efficiency and reduced overhead. In one example embodiment, this is accomplished by notifying a client application manager associated with each of one or more grid nodes about a type of data transfer protocol to use upon receiving a new version of an application release bundle by a repository server. The new version of the application release bundle is then hot deployed / redeployed on running one or more application servers in the associated grid using an appropriate hot deployment plug-in based on the data transfer protocol by each client application manager.

System and method for comprehensive general electric protection for computers against malicious programs that may steal information and/or cause damages

In the prior art of computer security by default programs are allowed to do whatever they like to other programs or to their data files or to critical files of the operating system, which is as absurd as letting a guest in a hotel bother other guests as he pleases, steal their property or copy it or destroy it, or have free access to the hotel's management resources. The present concept is based on automatic segregation between programs. This is preferably done by creating automatically an unlimited number of Virtual Environments (VEs) with virtual sharing of resources, so that the programs in each VE think that they are alone on the computer, and (unless explicitly allowed by the user) any changes that they think they made in virtually shared resources are in reality only made in their own VE, while the user preferably has an integrated view of the computer.

Method and apparatus for histological and physiological biometric operation and authentication

The present invention is directed toward a device for biometric authentication. The device comprises an infra red signal transmitter, signal receiver, memory module, and processing module. The signal transmitter transmits infrared energy toward a user. The infrared energy is partly absorbed and partly reflected by the user's body. The infra red signal receiver collects partly reflected infrared energy. The memory module stores the data, and the processing module processes and compares the reflected infrared energy and stored data for use in biometric authentication.

Systems and methods for reducing fractured bone using a fracture reduction cannula

Systems and methods provide for the fixation of osteoporotic and non-osteoporotic long bones, especially Colles' fractures. A cannula having a circumferential opening is inserted into cancellous bone and directed such that the circumferential opening faces the fracture. The cannula is further adapted to receive an expandable structure, the expandable structure being inserted through the cannula until it is in registration with the circumferential opening. The expandable structure is expanded through the circumferential opening into cancellous bone and toward the fracture. The expansion of the expandable structure through the circumferential opening toward the fracture causes compression of cancellous bone and moves fractured cortical bone, thus creating a cavity proximal to the fracture. The cavity is then filled with a flowable bone filling material and the material allowed to harden.

Pedicle screw assembly and methods therefor

A method for stabilizing a spine includes providing a coupling element having upper and lower ends, a rod receiving opening adapted to receive an elongated stabilizing rod, a bore extending through the lower end and a conical-shaped seat surrounding the bore adjacent the lower end; providing a fastener having upper and lower ends, a head having a radial surface, and at least one anchoring element between the lower end of the fastener and the head; assembling the fastener with the coupling element so that the lower end of the fastener passes through the bore of the coupling element and the radial surface of the head engages the conical-shaped seat. The method also includes anchoring the fastener to bone; moving the coupling element relative to the fastener for capturing the elongated stabilizing rod in the rod receiving opening; and urging the captured stabilizing rod toward the head of the fastener so that the rod contacts the head and forces the radial surface of the head against the conical-shaped seat of the coupling element for locking the coupling element from further movement relative to the fastener.
