Lignin polymers having distinctive properties, including a generally high molecular weight and generally homogeneous size distribution, as well as preservation of native reactive side groups, are isolated by solvent extraction of plant materials. Methods for isolation of lignin polymers, and for use of the isolated lignin polymers are disclosed. Compositions containing lignin isolated from plant materials, such as carbon fiber composites, resins, adhesive binders and coatings, polyurethane-based foams, rubbers and elastomers, plastics, films, paints, nutritional supplements, food and beverage additives are disclosed. Xylose and xylose derivatives, furfural, fermentable sugars, cellulose and hemi-cellulose products may be used directly or further processed. The lignin polymers and other plant-derived products disclosed herein may be produced in abundance at low cost, and may be used as substitutes for feedstocks originating from fossil fuel or petrochemical sources in the manufacture of various products.

Heavy components are catalytically cracked, which are derived from one or more of the hydroprocessed effluent, a heated stream within the steam pyrolysis zone, or the mixed product stream catalytically cracking. Catalytically cracked products are produced, which are combined with the mixed product stream and the combined stream is separated, and olefins and aromatics are recovered as product streams.

An integrated hydrotreating, steam pyrolysis and coker process for the direct processing of a crude oil is provided to produce olefinic and aromatic petrochemicals, and petroleum coke. Crude oil and recycled coker liquid product are charged to a hydroprocessing zone operating under conditions effective to produce a hydroprocessed effluent which is thermally cracked in the presence of steam to produce a mixed product stream. The residual liquid fraction recovered upstream of the thermal cracking unit or within the thermal cracking unit is thermally cracked under conditions effective to produce coke and coker liquid product. The coker liquid product is recycled to the step of hydroprocessing while the petroleum coke is recovered. Hydrogen from the mixed product stream is purified and recycled to the hydroprocessing zone, and olefins, aromatics and pyrolysis fuel oil are recovered from the separated mixed product stream.

The biomass moulded coal has the advantages of low cost, low ignition point, high burn-off rate and integrative desulfurization and water proofing performance, and has great significance of energy conservation and environmental protection.

Spent catalyst from both the first and second downflow reactors are regenerated in a common regeneration zone, and first and second cracked product streams are recovered.

System and Method Utilizing Fiber Lasers for Titanium Welding Using an Argon Cover Gas

The present invention is a method and system for reducing contamination in the resulting plasma of a weld produced by a fiber laser. The invention establishes the fiber laser in an optimal configuration for applying a high density beam to a weld material that eliminates spectral interference. The beam is applied in a narrow bandwidth of 1064 nm+ / −0.5 nm in one operative condition using an inert shielding gas, preferably argon, in a cross-flow or controlled environment around the welding region to prevent contamination of the plasma forming in the weld region. The method is optimized by determining and avoiding the emission spectrum for the fiber laser and the cover gas or gasses as well as any particular excitation spectra for the weld material. The system can utilize a single laser input, or can utilize multiple lasers joined by coupling means and utilizing a switch to select one or more of the fiber lasers.
