After modification, zinc oxide nanoparticles, nanospheres, nanorods, microspheres and diamond-shape units are uniformly distributed on the surface of the hydroxyapatite whiskers by fusion coating, the particle size is 30 nm to 400 nm, the surface area and the roughness are greatly improved, and the mechanical embedment force between the zinc oxide nanoparticle and the matrix is increased. Therefore, the zinc oxide-modified hydroxyapatite whisker can serve as an ideal reinforcing material with antibacterial effect.
