After an adhesive layer made of ITO or the like, a reflective layer made of silver or an alloy including silver, and a barrier layer made of ITO or the like are laminated in order on a substrate with a planarizing layer which is a base layer in between, a mask is formed on the barrier layer, and the adhesive layer, the reflective layer and the barrier layer are etched at once by using the mask to form a laminated structure. As an etching gas, for example, a gas including methane (CH4) is preferable. The laminated structure is used as an anode, and an insulating film, an organic layer including a light-emitting layer and a common electrode as a cathode are laminated in order on the laminated structure so as to form an organic light-emitting device. The laminated structure can be used as a reflective electrode, a reflective film or wiring of a liquid crystal display.

Apparatus for detecting bus connection

An apparatus for detecting bus connection is provided for determining whether an electrical connector of a peripheral device is connected to an electrical connection port. In the apparatus, a detection capacitor is electrically coupled to a detection pin in the electrical connection port, and a controller is provided to transmit a detection signal to the detection pin. According to the signal fed back by the detection capacitor, the occurrences of the charge and discharge phenomena in the detection capacitor are determined, and then the controller is able to determine whether the detection pin of the electrical connector is electrically coupled to the electrical connector, so as to initiate a system event. The detection pin is not electrically charged when the detection pin is not electrically coupled to the electrical connector, so as to prevent the detection pin from being electrolyzed in the water or in a humid circumstance.

Li-ION BATTERY FOR VEHICLES WITH ENGINE START-STOP OPERATIONS

The operation of internal combustion, reciprocating engines in some automotive vehicles may be managed such that the engine operation is stopped each time the vehicle is brought to a stop, and then the engine is re-started when the operator presses the accelerator pedal to put the vehicle in motion. In some driving situations the engine of the vehicle may be stopped and re-started many times, which is a mode of engine operation for which the traditional 12 volt, lead-acid battery is not well suited. It is found that a six cell, lithium-ion battery combining LiFePO4 as the active positive electrode material and Li4Ti5O12 as the active negative electrode material, together with suitable separators and a suitable low freezing point electrolyte may be adapted to deliver starting power for repeated engine starting, despite short intervening charging periods.

Process for optimizing removal of condensable components from a fluid

A method for removing condensable components from a fluid containing condensable components. The method involves optimizing the temperature of an initial feed stream including the condensable components through heat exchange and cooling to condense liquids there from. The liquids are removed to form a gas stream which is then compressed and after-cooled to form a high pressure stream. A portion of the high pressure stream is expanded to form a cooled low pressure stream which is mixed with the initial feed stream to augment cooling and condensation of condensable components in the initial feed stream.

Cathodic protection of steel within a covering material

Cathodic protection of an existing concrete structure, including a steel member at least partly buried, such as steel rebar, in the concrete structure, is provided by embedding anodes into a fresh concrete layer applied over an excavated patch and / or as a covering overlay. The anodes are embedded at spaced positions or as an array in the layer and connected to the rebar. A reinforcing layer is applied to the anode or adjacent the anode to resist expansion of the anode body tending to cause cracking of the concrete caused by the larger volume of the corrosion products relative to the anode material. Pores are provided in the anode body so as to take up the corrosion products. The reinforcing layer can be provided in the actual anode body as a closed surface surrounding the anode material inside or may be provided in the concrete as a layer on top of the anode in an array form at or near the outer surface of the concrete.
