The present disclosure relates to chewing gum bases, wherein the inorganic filler in the gum base formulation has been replaced with a polyol. Thus, the chewing gum base of the present disclosure is substantially free of inorganic fillers, while containing a polyol, such as mannitol. Also disclosed is a method of producing the chewing gum base. The methods of the present disclosure utilize polyols as substitutes for inorganic fillers in various production stages. A confectionery product, such as a chewing gum, comprising the chewing gum base is also disclosed.
