Pipeline mapping and interrupter therefor

Cathodic protection voltages are used to resist the damage to pipes or cables from electrolytic effects. However, localized fields can lead to stray currents and may result in corrosion and it is therefore desirable to detect and analyse those stray currents. Frequently there are several pipes in the area of interest and so it is necessary to distinguish between those pipes. Therefore the cathodic voltage on the pipes is modulated, with different pipes having different modulations. This modulation may be applied using an interrupter. Orthogonal modulations with non-unitary aspect ratios improve the discrimination between the pipes while maximizing the energy content of the modulation pattern. The analysis is improved when the interrupters are synchronized with each other and so repeating on the same time-base. This synchronization may be achieved using an external time signal such as GPS. An interrupter which can be used in this regard is also proposed, and may be powered from the cathodic voltage itself.

Non-Volatile Memory and Method with Peak Current Control

A non-volatile memory with multiple memory dice manages simultaneous operations so as to not exceed a system power capacity. A load signal bus is pulled up with a strength proportional to the system power capacity. Each die has a driver to pull down the bus by an amount corresponding to its degree of power need as estimated by a state machine of the die. The bus therefore provides a load signal that serves as arbitration between the system power capacity and the cumulative loads of the individual dice. The load signal is therefore at a high state when the system power capacity is not exceeded; otherwise it is at a low state. When a die wishes to perform an operation and requests a certain amount of power, it drives the bus accordingly and its state machine either proceeds with the operation or not, depending on the load signal.

An electronic flow measurement device (EFM), for use in conjunction with a flow meter in a pressurized gas line, has a microprocessor and read-only memory (ROM), and calculates and records gas flow rates corrected for variable factors such as gas pressure, temperature, and density. Look-up tables stored in the ROM contain intermediate values calculated in accordance with selected protocols for selected ranges of input variables such as gas temperature, pressure, density, and turbine “K” factors. Based on inputs received from gas temperature and pressure sensors, the EFM selects corresponding intermediate values from the look-up tables, and then uses these values to calculate corrected gas flow rates, using software residing in the EFM. The microprocessor's power consumption is significantly reduced because the use of look-up tables reduces the complexity and extent of calculations that the EFM needs to perform, as compared with performing all required calculations in the EFM.

The pre-cooler heat exchanger can have its working fluid re-cooled in a second heat exchanger which exchanges heat with the cooler dry air downstream of the cooling heat exchanger. The sensor has the beneficial effects that compared with an existing conventional heating type gas sensor array technology, on the one hand, the gas sensor can work at room temperature to reduce the ageing problem of a sensitive material and improve the stability of the sensor, and on the other hand, improves the selectivity on gas recognition by changing the wavelengths of the light.
