Method of depositing film by peald using negative bias

A method of forming a film on a substrate by PEALD includes deposition cycles, each including (i) feeding a precursor in a pulse to a reaction space to adsorb a precursor on a surface of a substrate; (ii) after step (i), applying RF power to a second electrode to generate in the reaction space a plasma to which the precursor-adsorbed surface is exposed, thereby forming a sublayer on the surface; and (iii) applying a bias voltage to the second electrode while applying RF power in step (ii), which bias voltage is negative with reference to a potential on a surface of the first electrode, wherein the cycle is repeated to deposit multiple sublayers until a film constituted by the sublayers has a desired thickness.

Systems and methods for removing lenses from lens molds

Methods and apparatus for separating mold sections, removing a lens product from the separated mold sections, and transferring the lens product to a processing tray are provided and include contacting assembled mold sections with a warm fluid to break fused portions between the mold sections, and using one or more wedge shaped elements to pry apart and separate the mold sections, one from the other. A vacuum head having multiple vacuum ports is employed for lifting the newly molded lens product from a mold section and for releasing the lens from the vacuum head into a processing tray. A cylinder of flowing air directed around the circumference of the lens is effective to maintain the lens in an unfolded position as the lens is being released into the processing tray. A tray set including multiple trays holding multiple lenses is provided and includes features for enabling visual and / or mechanical distinction of the trays and lenses held thereby.

Device and method for integrated diagnostics with multiple independent flow paths

Invention performs an assay to determine presence or quantity of specific analyte in fluid sample. Representative device has two separate flow paths established sequentially in device with a single user activation step. First flow path delivers sample, and conjugate soluble binding reagents to solid phase. If analyte is present, an analyte:conjugate complex is formed and immobilized. Sample volume delivered by first path determined by absorbent capacity of solid phase, and not by amount of sample added to device. User need not measure sample volume. Sample / conjugate mixture is prevented from entering second flow path because capillary and surface energy of second flow path prevent it from being wetted by this mixture. Second flow path allows wash reagent to remove unbound conjugate and sample from solid phase to the absorbant, and optionally deliver detection reagents. Adaptable for many formats including, sandwich immunoassays, colloidal gold, sol particle, heterogeneous generic capture, and competitive assays.

Electromagnetic actuator and integrated actuator and fluid flow control valve

A magnetic device is formed from a permanent magnet generating magnetic flux, an armature which can occupy two positions between four poles and an electromagnet winding to which current can be supplied to produce a magnetic flux in one direction or the other, the flux from the winding causing the armature to move into one position and continue to remain in that position after the current flow ceases. The device can be incorporated into a fluid valve to act as a drive for opening and closing the valve. It may also serve as the drive for opening and closing electrical contacts. Monostable operation can be achieved by locating a magnetic flux shunt at one end of the armature travel. A holding solenoid may be incorporated. A pivoting armature in a fluid tight chamber comprises a fluid flow controlling device. It can adopt either of two home positions in contact with two magnetic poles and is retained by magnetic flux from a permanent magnet. Fluid can flow into and out of the chamber via a first passage. A second passage extends through one of the poles to an opening in the pole face which is covered by the armature when the latter occupies one home position but is uncovered when the armature occupies its other home position. A third fluid passage extends through and leads to a second opening in another pole, which is covered when the armature occupies its said other home position. Passages in the poles house energy storing springs each of which is compressed as the armature approaches the pole. A push rod can extend through a passage in one of the poles for conveying armature movement externally of the device.

Instrument for delivery of optical energy to the dental root canal system for hidden bacterial and live biofilm thermolysis

A system and process for thermolytic eradication of bacteria and biofilm in the root canal of a human tooth involve an elongated and flexible optical probe and a laser oscillator that provides the probe with low infrared energy. The optical probe is sufficiently long for insertion into substantially the entire length of the root canal of the tooth. The optical probe causes lateral dispersion of the radiation from the probe throughout the root canal. The radiation is provided at an energy density and for a period of time that are necessary to selectively target bacteria and live biofilm in the dentinal tubules of an entire root canal system, at once, thereby (1) inhibiting creation of a blackbody "hot tip", and (2) inducing laser interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) within the root-canal space.

Reduction of fouling in heat exchangers

A method for reducing the formation of deposits on the inner walls of a tubular heat exchanger through which a petroleum-based liquid is flowing comprises applying one of fluid pressure pulsations to the liquid flowing through the tubes of the exchanger and vibration to the heat exchanger to effect a reduction of the viscous boundary layer adjacent the inner walls of the tubular heat exchange surfaces. Reduction of the viscous boundary layer at the tube walls not only reduces the incidence of fouling with its consequential beneficial effect on equipment life but it also has the desirable effect of promoting heat transfer from the tube wall to the liquid in the tubes. Fouling and corrosion are further reduced by the use of a coating on the inner wall surfaces of the exchanger tubes.

In situ formed drain and source regions including a strain-inducing alloy and a graded dopant profile

The dopant profile of a transistor may be obtained on the basis of an in situ doped strain-inducing semiconductor alloy wherein a graded dopant concentration may be established along the height direction. Consequently, the semiconductor alloy may be positioned in close proximity to the channel region, thereby enhancing the overall strain-inducing efficiency, while not unduly compromising the finally obtained dopant profile. Furthermore, additional implant species may be incorporated prior to selectively growing the semiconductor alloy, thereby avoiding implantation-induced relaxation of the internal strain.

Control device for electric vehicle

A control device for an electric vehicle where a threshold storing unit is provided which stores two large and small thresholds and (first threshold>second threshold), and a drive state switching unit is provided which reduces torque output of a drive motor, while allowing accessories to operate, when a remaining energy capacity SOC from a remaining energy capacity detecting unit fails below the first threshold, and stops power supply to the drive motor, while allowing the accessories to operate, when the remaining energy capacity SOC from a remaining energy capacity detecting unit falls below the second threshold.
