Method and apparatus for patterned plasma-mediated laser trephination of the lens capsule and three dimensional phaco-segmentation

System and method for making incisions in eye tissue at different depths. The system and method focuses light, possibly in a pattern, at various focal points which are at various depths within the eye tissue. A segmented lens can be used to create multiple focal points simultaneously. Optimal incisions can be achieved by sequentially or simultaneously focusing lights at different depths, creating an expanded column of plasma, and creating a beam with an elongated waist.

System and method for limiting fragmentation

A method and system are disclosed for controlling the storage of data in a storage device to reduce fragmentation. The method may include a controller of a storage device receiving data for storage in non-volatile memory, proactively preventing fragmentation by only writing an amount of sequentially addressed logical groups of data into a main storage area of the storage device, such as multi-level cell (MLC) flash memory, and reactively defragmenting data previously written into the MLC memory when a trigger event is reached. The system may include a storage device with a controller configured to perform the method noted above, where the thresholds for minimum sequential writes into MLC, and for scanning the memory for fragmented data and removing fragmentation by re-writing the fragmented data already in MLC into new MLC blocks, may be fixed or variable.

System for providing satellite bandwidth on demand employing uplink frame formatting for smoothing and mitigating jitter and dynamically changing numbers of contention and data channels

A method of transmitting time division multiplexed data from a satellite terminal to a satellite wherein the satellite terminal receives a command indicating to transmit data during a frame comprising a plurality of timeslots in accordance with a timeslot reordering scheme. The timeslot reordering scheme is selected to spread data from respective satellite terminals to different timeslots throughout the frames. A processor monitors the use of channels by the satellite terminals, stores bandwidth requests using queues, allocates channels in accordance with bandwidth requests and a bandwidth allocation algorithm, and transmits the channel allocations in a frame. Timeslots not allocated to any of the satellite terminals are contention channels. The number of contention channels changes dynamically, depending on demand for the plurality of channels by the satellite terminals. Queues are provided for each channel for storing high and low priority rate requests and high and low priority volume requests. The bandwidth allocation algorithm determines the preemption of the queues, and allocation priorities.

Memory management method for application program

The invention discloses a memory management method at application program level, including the management of the memory space of a fixed-size data structure and a variable-size data structure. The management method comprises managing the allocation and the release of the memory space of the fixed-size data structure in a pool-type memory management mode, and recovering memory fragments generated during the allocation and the release processes of the memory space of the fixed-size data structure by using a garbage collection mechanism; managing the allocation and the release of the memory space of the variable-size data structure in a vector mode, and recovering memory fragments generated during the allocation and the release processes of the memory space of the fixed-size data structure by using a compression mechanism. The invention improves the management efficiency of the memory allocation and release without causing system to halt due to depletion of the system memory, and is more efficient than the memory management of a system.
