HTTP distributed remote user authentication system

The present invention relates to the field of data and computer network security. Data and computer network security is of the utmost importance to most organizations that possess such networks. One of the difficulties that users and managers of these networks face is that the users have to provide a user ID and password every time they wish to access one of the organization's secured HTTP servers or URLs. This creates a problem for users and managers since lists of numerous user IDs and passwords need to be maintained and therefore can easily be lost or their confidentiality compromised. This invention addresses these problems by providing a transparent, scalable, single point of authentication for remote users across any number of HTTP servers anywhere on a data network, such as an Intranet, using any user ID and password scheme implemented by a main authentication HTTP server.

Battery performance monitor

Improvements both in the methods whereby existing techniques for determining the condition of a battery are communicated to a user (for example, to the owner of a private vehicle, or to the service manager of a fleet of vehicles), or the vehicle's operating system, and in the methods for evaluating the condition of the battery are disclosed. It has been discovered by the inventors that the difference in internal resistance of a fully charged battery as measured during charging and as measured after charging is greater for a battery in poor condition than for a new battery. The invention relates in part to instruments and corresponding methods for evaluating the condition of a battery utilizing this discovery.

Semi-automatic reconstruction method of 3-D building models using building outline segments

A semi-automatic reconstruction method of 3-D building models using building outline segments is introduced. The core technology of the present invention is called the “Split-Merge-Shape” algorithm. The Split and Merge processes sequentially reconstruct the topology between any roof-edges of the buildings and then reform them as enclosed regions. The Shape process uses height information and consecutive-coplanar analysis to determine the shapes and heights of the roofs. After generating polyhedral building models, prismatic building models can also be generated by using a semi-automatic procedure. An existing digital topographic map of buildings can be directly used to reconstruct their 3-D models without any excess stereo-measurements. In addition to cost reduction, high efficiency, high quality, and minimization of manual operations, the integration of photogrammetric mapping with 3-D building modeling in one procedure is possible, which is the most cost-effective approach for 3-D mapping.

Method and apparatus for precursively controlling energy during coaptive tissue fusion

ActiveUS7678105B2Easily sensed and determinedEqually or more effectiveSurgical instruments for heatingSurgical forcepsFiberPeak value
A sidewall of biological tissue which surrounds and defines an opening in the tissue is sealed or fused to occlude the opening by compressing apposite sidewall portions and applying sufficient energy to cause the fibers of the compressed apposed sidewall portions to intertwine and fuse with one another to form a permanent seal. The energy application is controlled by detecting a precursor fusion condition while applying the energy and before sufficient energy has been applied to achieve an adequate seal. The application of energy is terminated in a time-delayed relationship to the detection of the precursor fusion condition such that sufficient energy has been applied to achieve an effective seal. The precursor fusion condition is detected upon the peak RF current delivered to the tissue remaining below a threshold value for a threshold time.

Method and apparatus for coordinating contrast agent injection and image acquisition in c-arm computed tomography

In a medical imaging system and method, an image data acquisition system is operable in a fluoroscopy mode to obtain a fluoroscopic image of a subject and is operable in a CT mode to obtain projection data sets of the subject that are used to reconstruct a three-dimensional image of a region of interest of the subject. For imaging procedures involving the administration of contrast agent to the subject, the image data acquisition apparatus is operated in the fluoroscopy mode at the time the administration of contrast agent is begun, and the filling of vessels with the contrast agent is automatically monitored by fluoroscopy. When the automatic monitoring indicates that an optimal degree of filling of the vessels with the contrast agent has occurred, the image data acquisition apparatus is automatically switched to operate in the CT mode to acquire projection data sets of the region of interest containing the vessels filled with contrast agent.

Storage area network methods and apparatus using event notifications with data

An storage area network (SAN) has a manager digital data processor that includes a first element that maintains a first representation of the SAN and a second element that maintains a second representation of the SAN. The first element generates notifications of events in the SAN, e.g., addition or removal of components or relationships between components, and includes with them data pertaining to the event. The second element responds to such notifications and data by updating the second representation. That data is preferably sufficient for the second element to update the second representation without further reference to information contained in the representation.

Electronic mail classified advertising system

A system and method for establishing temporary electronic mail (e-mail) accounts is configured to operate with classified newspaper advertising. One of the aspects of the present invention is a file handling method that automates the process of establishing the e-mail accounts through interaction with a publisher's system for taking orders for classified advertisements. Typical newspaper classified advertising comprises two or three lines of text which provide only basic information about an item for sale. With the present invention, advertisers would be offered the option of creating a special e-mail account with a duration tied to the run of the advertisement. The e-mail accounts would be used to receive inquiries about the item for sale. The e-mail account could be also be configured to auto-respond to each incoming message with additional descriptive information about the item being offered for sale. Responders could learn more about the item, and thereby avoid the necessity of calling the seller. Sellers, in turn, can avoid the problem of repeated phone calls to request additional information, and may also remain anonymous while responding to multiple inquiries.

Storage Area Network Methods and Apparatus with Centralized Management

Novel storage area networks (SANs) and methods of operation thereof utilize a plurality of hosts coupled via an interconnect with one or more storage units. A manager device, process or other functionality in communication with a plurality of agent processes, devices or other functionality, each of which is associated with a host. The agents identify attributes of (i) their associated hosts, (ii) interconnect to which that host is coupled, and / or (iii) storage units to which that host is coupled via the interconnect. The manager responds to these attributes identified by the agents to manage the SAN. The manager can be implemented on a first digital data processor and the hosts on further digital data processors. These digital data processors can be coupled via a first network, e.g., an IP or other network, to support communications between the manager and the agents. A second network, e.g., SCSI and / or fiber channel based fabric, separate from the first network, can be utilized as the interconnect between the hosts and the storage devices.

Suction control valve

A suction control valve is disclosed which includes a primary suction device access and an ancillary suction device access. The valve includes a valve core which is linearly movable between a first position in which the primary access is closed against suction pressure therethrough, to a second position in which the primary access is open to suction pressure therethrough. The valve also is rotatable from the first position to a third position to disable its linear movement and to open the ancillary access port. When the core is in the first position, atmospheric air can pass through the valve and into the suction pressure source in such a manner that a "hissing" auditory signal is generated, indicative of the presence of suction pressure within the valve. When the actuator is in the second or third positions, the "hissing" is prevented. The valve is easily assembled and adapted for gas sterilization.

User interface architecture for storage area network

A digital data processor of the type used, e.g., in management of a storage area network (SAN), executes a process (a “manager” process) to maintain a representation of the SAN topology or at least an attribute thereof. A graphical output device displays the SAN representation. A further process (a “user interface” process) controls the output device for purposes of displaying that representation. An interface element effects retrieval of the SAN representation, for example, in response to a request from the user interface process. It transmits that representation to the user interface process for display on the graphical output device.
