Non-volatile memory and method with shared processing for an aggregate of read/write circuits

A non-volatile memory device capable of reading and writing a large number of memory cells with multiple read / write circuits in parallel has an architecture that reduces redundancy in the multiple read / write circuits to a minimum. The multiple read / write circuits are organized into a bank of similar stacks of components. Redundant circuits such as a processor for processing data among stacks each associated with multiple memory cells are factored out. The processor is implemented with an input logic, a latch and an output logic. The input logic can transform the data received from either the sense amplifier or the data latches. The output logic further processes the transformed data to send to either the sense amplifier or the data latches or to a controller. This provides an infrastructure with maximum versatility and a minimum of components for sophisticated processing of the data sensed and the data to be input or output.

Photolithographically-patterned variable capacitor structures and method of making

A new type of high-Q variable capacitor includes a substrate, a first electrically conductive layer fixed to the substrate, a dielectric layer fixed to a portion of the electrically conductive layer, and a second electrically conductive layer having an anchor portion and a free portion. The anchor portion is fixed to the dielectric layer and the free portion is initially fixed to the dielectric layer, but is released from the dielectric layer to become separated from the dielectric layer, and wherein an inherent stress profile in the second electrically conductive layer biases the free portion away from the dielectric layer. When a bias voltage is applied between the first electrically conductive layer and the second electrically conductive layer, electrostatic forces in the free portion bend the free portion towards the first electrically conductive layer, thereby increasing the capacitance of the capacitor.

Spatially modulated detector for radiation

A novel radiation detector, a detection principle and an associated structure are provided for semiconductor substrate detectors in general and for CMOS based circuits in particular. For an optical detector, photons absorbed in the neutral zone of the substrate generate electron hole pairs that migrate by diffusion. A shadow mask gives a spatial modulation to the incident, and consequently, to the absorbed light in the semiconductor substrate. By measuring the magnitude of the spatial frequency component in the minority carrier distribution with a spatial frequency corresponding to that of the shadow mask, a fast detector is conceived. A shadow mask with higher spatial modulation frequency delivers a faster turn-off. The combination of a plurality of these detectors with an image fiber forms a basic system for constructing high-speed parallel optical interconnects between chips.

Method and apparatus for a substantially coaxial injector element

A system to provide a two piece robust fluid injector. According to various embodiments, the fluid injector is a fuel injector for a combustion engine. The injector includes two coaxially formed annuluses. One annulus is formed in a face plate and the second annulus or hole is defined by a tube extending through the face plate. The tube extends through the face plate in a portion of a through bore which also is used to define the second annulus. This allows the second annulus to always be formed inherently and precisely substantially coaxial with the first annulus. Moreover, the second annulus can be formed with a much greater tolerance than if other independent components needed to be added.

Synthesis of functional polymers and block copolymers on silicon oxide surfaces by nitroxide-mediated living free radical polymerization in vapor phase

Nitroxide mediated free radical polymerization of vaporized vinyl monomers, including acrylic acid (AAc), styrene (St), N-2-(hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) and N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAAm), on silicon wafers is demonstrated. FTIR, ellipsometry and contact angle goniometry were used to characterize the chemical structures, thickness and hydrophilicity of the films. The growth of film is linearly proportional to its reaction time, leading to the easy and exact control of polymer film thickness from nanometers to submicrons. The capability of polymerizing various monomers allows us to fabricate various functional polymer brushes. The reversible thermo-responsiveness of a 200 nm thick grafted poly(NIPAAm) film in aqueous solution is demonstrated with over 50% change in thickness at its lower critical solution temperature. A tri-block copolymer of poly(AAc)-b-polySt-b-poly(HPMA) is successfully synthesized, proving the renewability of TEMPO-mediated polymerization at vapor phase. Surface polymer composition and morphology is thus controlled at nanoscale by utilizing vapor phase surface-initiated controlled polymerization.
