273 results about "Ring laser" patented technology

Ring lasers are composed of two beams of light of the same polarization traveling in opposite directions ("counter-rotating") in a closed loop. Currently ring lasers are used most frequently as gyroscopes (ring laser gyroscope; (figure 2)) in moving vessels like cars, ships, planes, and missiles. The world's largest ring lasers can detect details of the Earth's rotation. Such large rings are also capable of extending scientific research in many new directions, including the detection of gravitational waves, Fresnel drag, Lense-Thirring effect, and quantum-electrodynamic effects.

Use of multiple masks to control uniformity in coating deposition

The uniformity of individual layers of multiple coating materials deposited on a substrate in a vacuum deposition process (such as for manufacturing mirrors for use in ring laser gyroscopes) is improved by an apparatus and method that include changing the masks placed in front of the substrate upon which the coating materials are to be deposited. Separate masks are tuned for each particular coating material to compensate for the unique plume shape of the material, and provide a uniform deposition of that particular coating material. Each mask is positioned in front of the substrate when the material for which the mask has been tuned is being deposited. The masks are changed when the coating material is changed, without venting the chamber.

Sensing signal detecting device and method based on fiber Brillouin ring laser

The invention discloses a sensing signal detecting device and a sensing signal detecting method based on a fiber Brillouin ring laser. The device comprises a narrow linewidth DFB (distributed feedback) laser, three optical fiber couplers, a pulse modulator, two erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, two optical fiber circulators, two single-mode fibers, an optical isolator, a polarization controller and a photoelectric detector, wherein the fiber Brillouin ring laser is composed of the second optical fiber circulator, the second single mode fiber, the optical isolator, the second optical fiber coupler and the polarization controller. Light emitted from the laser is divided into two beams of light via the optical fiber couplers, wherein the probe light is modulated into pulsed light which enters into sensing optical fiber after passing through the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers to ensure that back spontaneous Brillouin scattered signals are generated; the reference light passes through the center frequency of the fiber Brillouin ring laser to ensure that a Brillouin frequency shift is generated; and the coherent detection is carried out on the two Brillouin scattered signals which are scattered back to ensure that the advantages of rapid high-accuracy detection and simple structure are realized by utilizing low-cost devices.

Apparatus for measuring ultra narrow laser line width by Brillouin optical fibre ring laser and measuring method

The invention is a device and measuring method for using Brillouin optical fiber circle laser to measure linewidth of ultra-narrow laser, which relates to a measuring device and method for laser linewidth. The output of the laser source is connected to the input of the isolator, the output of the isolator is connected to the input of the fiber coupler, the output of the coupler is connected to the inlet of the fiber coupler, the output of the fiber coupler is connected to the input of the photoelectric diode, the output of the photoelectric diode is connected to the input of the frequency spectrum analyzer, the fiber circular cavity is formed by connection one end of the aperture circle made up of unimodular fiber and the port of the fiber coupler, another end of the aperture circle is connected to the port three of the coupler. The method is: the laser needed to be measured is sent into the fiber circle cavity, when the power of the laser needed to be measured reach the threshold of SBS, it generates a first order Stokes light in the coupler, when the power of the first order stokes light reach the SBS threshold, it generates the second order stokes light in the coupler, then the second order stokes light and the laser needed to be measured frequency are analyzed by the frequency spectrum analyzer, and the linewidth can be acquired.

Wavelength control of a dual-ring laser

An optical source includes a semiconductor optical amplifier that provides an optical signal, and a photonic chip with first and second ring resonators that operate as Vernier rings. When the optical source is operated below a lasing threshold, one or more thermal-tuning mechanisms, which may be thermally coupled to the first ring resonator and / or the second ring resonator, may be adjusted to align resonances of the first ring resonator and the second ring resonator based on measured optical power on a shared optical waveguide that is optically coupled to the first and second ring resonators. Then, when the optical source is operated above the lasing threshold, a common thermal-tuning mechanism may be adjusted to lock the aligned resonances with an optical cavity mode of the optical source based on a measured optical power on an optical waveguide that is optically coupled to the first ring resonator.

Photonic quantum ring laser for low power consumption display device

A three-dimensional (3D) photonic quantum ring (PQR) laser for a low power consumption display, wherein the PQR laser has a sufficient small radius to adjust an inter-mode spacing (IMS) of oscillation modes discretely multi-wavelength-oscillating in an envelope wavelength range within the gain profile of a given semiconductor material of the PQR laser so that the IMS has a maximal value and the number of the oscillation modes is minimized. The PQR laser exhibits multi-wavelength oscillation characteristics according to a 3D toroidal cavity structure, and is designed to exhibit a threshold current lower than those of LEDs and to have multi-wavelength modes in an envelope wavelength range of several nm to several tens of nm. The PQR laser consumes reduced power while maintaining desired color and high brightness equal to those of the LEDs, through an adjustment of the multi-wavelength oscillation characteristics and IMS of the PQR laser.
