A hard disk system having a disk housing shock mounted in an environmental housing employs a device to transfer heat from the disk housing while avoiding any mechanical connection that would impose significant rigidity between the disk housing and the environment housing so as to defeat the shock mounting. In one embodiment, a Peltier effect heat pump has a cold side in contact with the disk housing and a hot side in contact with heat-conducting spring fingers contacting the environmental housing. In another embodiment, a fan is positioned in a space between the outside of the disk housing and the inside of the environmental housing to circulate air around the disk housing, while a Peltier effect heat pump moves heat to the environmental housing. In yet another embodiment, the fan is positioned in the space between the disk housing and the environmental housing, and the Peltier effect heat pump has a cold side in contact with an exterior surface of the environmental housing and a hot side in contact with a heat sink. In still another embodiment, a flexible heat pipe comprising a shell containing a low vapor-point liquid is positioned in the space between the outside of the disk housing and the inside of the environmental housing with respective ends in contact with each of the housings.

Apparatus for maintaining the temperature of a component of a gas turbine engine below a predetermined maximum working temperature comprises a reservoir for a cooling fluid having a boiling point below the working temperature and in which the component is immersed or with which it is in contact. At least two heat exchangers are associated with the reservoir and operable to effect condensation of vaporized cooling fluid and return of same to the reservoir. Preferably the apparatus is a closed system incorporating three heat exchangers respectively adapted to effect heat exchange with engine fuel, compressed air derived from a fan or low pressure compressor of the engine and ambient air. Means may advantageously be provided to ensure return of condensed cooling fluid to the reservoir when the attitude of the reservoir is altered as a result of aircraft maneuvers.

A spiral-path chimney-effect heat sink cools an LED light bulb by increasing the length of the path over which heated air rises between two coaxial tubes. A tube top is attached to one end of the tubes. A light emitting diode (LED) is thermally coupled through the tube top to the inner tube. There are window openings below the rim where the outer tube attaches to the tube top. A convection current path guide is disposed between the inner and outer tubes. The convection current path guide is a spiral wire that causes rising air to follow a longer spiral path around the heated inner tube before the air exits the heat sink through the window openings. An Edison screw base is attached to the end of the inner tube opposite the end attached to the tube top. The coaxial tubes can be cylindrical tubes, conical tubes or square tubes.

The module can include control circuitry configured to control operation of the one or more heating elements, and a transceiver configured to transmit operating information of the module to a remote electronic device and to receive operating instructions from the remote electronic device. Optionally, the module can include a heat transfer pack that can thermally communicate with the at least one heating element, and which can be interposed between the at least one heating element and a surface of the drinkware or plateware device.

A heat exchanger utilizing active fluid transport of a heat transfer fluid has multiple discrete flow passages provided by a simple but versatile construction. The microstructured channels are replicated onto a film layer which is utilized in the fluid transfer heat exchanger. The surface structure defines the flow channels which are generally uninterrupted and highly ordered. These flow channels can take the form of linear, branching or dendritic type structures. A cover layer having favorably thermal conductive properties is provided on the structured bearing film surface. Such structured bearing film surfaces and the cover layer are thus used to define microstructure flow passages. The use of a film layer having a microstructured surface facilitates the ability to highly distribute a potential across the assembly of passages to promote active transport of a heat transfer fluid. The thermally conductive cover layer then effects heat transfer to an object, gas, or liquid in proximity with the heat exchanger.

The technical gift of the present invention is that, after entering into the heat exchanger, steam firstly effects heat exchange on the U-shaped tube flow path shell side to be cooled and condensed, thereafter entering into flow path tube side of the cantilever combined coil, which are disposed within the same one shell, for a secondary heat exchange, and subsequently flowing out of the heat exchanger after being subcooled. Such steam-water heat exchanger having a complex flow path are advantageous in a small steam flow resistance of the U-shaped tube flow path shell side; a higher condensate water flow velocity in the cantilever combined coils flow path tube; a high heat exchange coefficient; good coordination of the temperature difference fields of the hot and cold fluids in the heat exchanger; and a high heat exchange efficiency.
