198 results about "Shock mount" patented technology

In a variety of applications, a shock mount or isolation mount is a mechanical fastener that connects two parts elastically. They are used for shock and vibration isolation. Isolation mounts allow a piece of equipment to be securely mounted to a foundation and/or frame and, at the same time, allow it to float independently from the substrate.

Environmental system for rugged disk drive

A hard disk system having a disk housing shock mounted in an environmental housing employs a device to transfer heat from the disk housing while avoiding any mechanical connection that would impose significant rigidity between the disk housing and the environment housing so as to defeat the shock mounting. In one embodiment, a Peltier effect heat pump has a cold side in contact with the disk housing and a hot side in contact with heat-conducting spring fingers contacting the environmental housing. In another embodiment, a fan is positioned in a space between the outside of the disk housing and the inside of the environmental housing to circulate air around the disk housing, while a Peltier effect heat pump moves heat to the environmental housing. In yet another embodiment, the fan is positioned in the space between the disk housing and the environmental housing, and the Peltier effect heat pump has a cold side in contact with an exterior surface of the environmental housing and a hot side in contact with a heat sink. In still another embodiment, a flexible heat pipe comprising a shell containing a low vapor-point liquid is positioned in the space between the outside of the disk housing and the inside of the environmental housing with respective ends in contact with each of the housings.

Shock mount assembly for attachment of an electronic device to a support structure

A mechanical-shock-mount assembly enables attachment of a mechanical-shock-sensitive electronic device to a support structure. Two identical shock-mount structures are attached and located on opposite sides of an electronic device. Each shock-mount structure has a pair of generally planar spring-like cantilever beams that have their free ends for attachment to the support structure. Damping material is located on the surfaces of the cantilever beams between the beams and clamping surfaces. At least one clamping surface is a plate that compresses the damping material between itself and the beam and / or compresses the damping material between the beam and a surface of the support structure when it is attached to the support structure. This shock-mount structure acts as a highly-damped nonlinear spring system that provides mechanical-shock resistance for the device in a direction perpendicular to the cantilevered beams and high stiffness in a direction in the plane of the beams. If desired, the shock-mounts can be first assembled to the support structure before attaching the device. The support structure can optionally have additional features for attaching other components of the device host.

Snow bike conversion system

A snow bike system includes a motorcycle converted for use in the snow with a rear suspension and belt track system. The belt track is relatively very wide and driven by a front wheel sprocket through a jackshaft. Matching shocks and struts in the rear suspension independently equalize the pressure applied to the ground. The rear strut is a sliding extension type that causes the front of the sliders to kick up when fully compressed during acceleration or climbing uphill. Increased weight on the rear track is shifted forward to keep the front ski down. The jackshaft provides both disc braking and moves the motorcycle engine drive power outboard to accommodate the wider belt track. A tubular subframe and tunnel rigidly mounts to the motorcycle's original rear swing arm pivots and shock mounts.

High density card retention device

A two-part, high-density card retention system includes a tapered channel in a chassis or housing and a mating wedge that runs the length of the housing, with the lead wedge being cammed towards a flat channel surface by drawing the wedge inwardly and locating the edge of the board to be mounted between the wedge and the opposing straight channel wall. The mounting provides continuous high-pressure contact between the board and the straight channel wall for maximal thermal transfer and robust anti-vibration and anti-shock mounting of the board to the chassis.
