Flow distributor and baffle system for a falling film evaporator

A falling film evaporator includes a flow distributor for uniformly distributing a two-phase refrigerant mixture across a tube bundle. The flow distributor includes a stack of at least three perforated plates each of which are separated by nearly full-width, full-length gaps or chambers. The flow distributor may also include a suction baffle and / or a distributor baffle. The distributor baffle extends downward to provide a hairpin turn past which refrigerant travels before exiting the evaporator. This directional change helps separate liquid from a primarily gaseous refrigerant stream. The suction baffle has various size openings to ensure that the flow rate of refrigerant through the hairpin turn is generally uniform and is maintained low enough to ensure liquid disentrainment over and along the length of the tube bundle within the evaporator.

Heat exchange inefficiencies found in round tube plate fin heat exchangers are eliminated in an aluminum heat exchanger that includes first and second headers (20), (22) and at least one flattened tube (24), (70) extending between the headers (20), (22). A plurality of generally parallel tube runs are defined and each has opposite edges. A plurality of plate fins (26), (50) are arranged in a stack and each has a plurality of open ended slots (34), one for each run of the tubes (24), (70). Each of the tube runs (24), (70) is nested within corresponding slots (26) and the fins (26), (50) with one of the edges (40) of the tube runs extending outwardly of the corresponding fin (34). The assembly is brazed together.

An apparatus and method of circulating a heat-absorbing material within a heat exchanger. The apparatus comprises a manifold layer coupled to an interface layer. The manifold layer comprises an inlet manifold and an outlet manifold. The interface layer comprises a plurality of channels that extend from the inlet manifold, toward a heat-exchanging plane, and turn away from the heat-exchanging plane, terminating at the outlet manifold. The plurality of channels are stacked in a plane non-parallel to the heat-exchanging plane. Each of the channels is adjacent to another, thus allowing heat radiated from a heat-generating device to be conducted to a cooling material circulating within the channels, away from the heat-generating device. Preferably, each of the channels has a U-shape or an elongated U-shape.

Outlet silencer and heat recovery structures for gas turbine

A sound attenuating duct unit suitable for connection to an outlet of a gas turbine and an improved heat recovery apparatus for use with such a turbine are disclosed. The former unit includes a duct housing having exterior sides, an air inlet at one end and first and second air outlets. Interior walls define a main airflow passageway extending from the air inlet to both of the outlets. Sound absorbing and heat insulation material is arranged between these walls and the exterior sides. Sound attenuating members are mounted in the passageway and a diverter damper is mounted in the housing and is able to direct air flow to either one of the air outlets. The sound attenuating members are mounted between the diverter damper and the air inlet. The heat recovery apparatus includes a series of aerodynamic diffusers mounted in a housing adjacent an air flow inlet connectable to the gas turbine.

Liquid-based cooling apparatus for an electronics rack

A cooling apparatus is provided for facilitating cooling of electronics drawers of an electronics rack. The apparatus includes a bi-fold door assembly configured for mounting to the electronics rack. The door assembly includes a first door and a second door, each configured for separate, hinged mounting to the electronics rack. The apparatus further includes a coolant distribution apparatus, wherein a coolant supply manifold thereof is mounted to the first door and a coolant return manifold thereof is mounted to the second door. Separate swivel connections are coupled in fluid communication with the coolant supply and return manifolds for facilitating supply and return of coolant to and from the manifolds, and for facilitating pivotal movement of the doors relative to the electronics rack. A plurality of coolant distribution ports are provided within the supply and return manifolds, and disposed to facilitate supply and return of coolant to the electronics drawers.

The present invention overcomes many of the disadvantages of prior art mobile oil field heat exchange systems by providing an improved frac water heating system. The present invention is a self-contained unit which is easily transported to remote locations. In one embodiment, the present invention includes a single-pass tubular coil heat exchanger contained within a closed-bottom firebox having a forced-air combustion and cooling system. In another embodiment, the present invention includes multiple, single-pass heat exchanger units arranged in a vertically stacked configuration. The rig also includes integral fuel tanks, hydraulic and pneumatic systems for operating the rig at remote operations in all weather environments. In a preferred embodiment, the improved frac water heating system is used to heat water on-the-fly (i.e., directly from the supply source to the well head) to complete hydraulic fracturing operations. The present invention also includes systems for regulating and adjusting the fuel / air mixture within the firebox to maximize the combustion efficiency. The system includes a novel hood opening mechanism attached to the exhaust stack of the firebox.
