Α-Pinene is an organic compound of the terpene class, one of two isomers of pinene. It is an alkene and it contains a reactive four-membered ring. It is found in the oils of many species of many coniferous trees, notably the pine. It is also found in the essential oil of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and Satureja myrtifolia (also known as Zoufa in some regions). Both enantiomers are known in nature; (1S,5S)- or (−)-α-pinene is more common in European pines, whereas the (1R,5R)- or (+)-α-isomer is more common in North America. The racemic mixture is present in some oils such as eucalyptus oil and orange peel oil.

The method has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high conversion rate of alpha-pinene and high enantioselectivity of cis-pinane; the ionic liquid catalyst system is easily separated from the product and can be recycled; and the process flow is simple, and the energy consumption is low.

Monocyclic terpene high-yield alpha-pinene isomerization catalyst and preparation method

The invention discloses an Alfa-pinene isomerization catalyst to improve the single ring terpene yield and a preparation method thereof. The composition of the catalyst is as follows: the mass ratio of zirconia and neodymium oxide is 1:0.03 to 0.09. The catalyst has the preparation method that a mesoporous alumina is adopted as a basic carrier, to prepare the loaded nano composite carrier by directly synthesizng mixture composed of nano zirconia and the neodymium oxide on the surface of the carrier by an immersion method, and to process the composite carrier by adopting an ultrasonic wave and microwave drying technique; the solid acid catalyst, applied to the Alfa-pinene isomerization reaction, is made from the loaded composite carrier SO4<2->. Results show that the conversion rate of the Alfa-pinene is over 98 percent, the single ring terpene accounts for more than 60 percent of an isomerization product. The Alfa-pinene isomerization catalyst has low cost and is pollution-free for the environment and equipment; besides, the prepared catalyst has high activity, high selectivity and high stability.
