433 results about "Hertz" patented technology

The hertz (symbol: Hz) is the derived unit of frequency in the International System of Units (SI) and is defined as one cycle per second. It is named after Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, the first person to provide conclusive proof of the existence of electromagnetic waves. Hertz are commonly expressed in multiples: kilohertz (10³ Hz, kHz), megahertz (10⁶ Hz, MHz), gigahertz (10⁹ Hz, GHz), terahertz (10¹² Hz, THz), petahertz (10¹⁵ Hz, PHz), exahertz (10¹⁸ Hz, EHz), and zettahertz (10²¹ Hz, ZHz).

Method and apparatus for creating an EH antenna

An antenna system for transmitting and receiving, in association with a radio device that develops an H-field and an E-field corresponding to a radio frequency power signal having a voltage and a current, the voltage having a phase relationship to the current. The antenna system includes a Hertz-type radiating element. A phasing and matching circuit is electrically coupled between the Hertz-type radiating element and the radio device. The phasing and matching circuit adjusts the phase relationship between the voltage and the current of the radio frequency power signal so that the H-field and the E-field are in nominal time phase. This enhances the performance of all of the antenna parameters in addition to allowing reduction in size.

Planar lightwave circuits with air filled trenches

An air filled trench is formed underneath the waveguide to reduce propagation loss, which in turn allowing the waveguide to be in the close proximity of on-chip devices, such as a photodetector. The air filled trench is formed from the back side of the substrate; hence it would not disturb the integration and the formation of components on the front side of the substrate. In another embodiment, for silicon-on-insulator (SOI) based device, with an air filled trench and a metal electrode, a back gate is formed. In yet another embodiment, air filled trench also reduces the substrate loss of RF passive components and passive antenna operating in Giga Hertz range. Air filled trenches can be used for both photonic and electronic circuits in a planar lightwave circuit. Finally, another embodiment is for the trench to effectively guide gases and fluids to pass through the detection area.

Electrostatic discharge protection device for giga-hertz radio frequency integrated circuits with varactor-LC tanks

The present invention relates to a device for protecting high frequency RF integrated circuits from ESD damage. The device comprises at least one varactor-LC circuit tank stacked to avoid the power gain loss by the parasitic capacitance of ESD circuit. The varactor-LC tank could be designed to resonate at the RF operating frequency to avoid the power gain loss from the parasitic capacitance of ESD circuit. Multiple LC-tanks could be stacked for further reduction in the power gain loss. A reverse-biased diode is used as the varactor for both purposes of impedance matching and effective ESD current discharging. Because the inductor is made of metal, both the inductor and the varactor can discharge ESD current when ESD condition happens. It has a high enough ESD level to prevent ESD discharge.

Phase angle control for synchronous machine control

A synchronous machine with 3-phase sensors set 120° apart and 90° advanced is used to provide commutation from a direct current source. A time delay circuit with an electronically implemented algorithm controls torque by delaying the 90° advance. This delay is controlled by a linear voltage, independent of frequency, and can be used to control position, speed, or acceleration. A delay beyond 90° advance causes commutation to cease, and the alternating current machine switches to a generator, indicative of motive power being applied. If motive power ceases, the alternating current machine switches to a motor. Controlled switching can be less than half of one hertz.

Blue extended super continuum light source

In a blue extended super continuum light source, when pulses of partly coherent monochromatic “pump” radiation of essentially constant amplitude are propagating through a microstructure fiber medium within a region of anomalous dispersion of the medium, then, provided the medium has a finite nonlinear coefficient of the index of refraction, the pump pulse is subject to a modulation instability. This results in formation of a train of narrow pulses with Tera Hertz repetition rate. Phase match between red shifted Raman solitons generated by the pump pulse and energy shed by the pump pulse at all frequencies with a group velocity below the pump pulse group velocity may lead to the formation of Cherenkov radiation. The solitons may seed Cherenkov radiation at different wavelengths depending on the actual fiber parameters. This allows extension of generated super continuum light beyond the four wave mixing limit when applying picosecond or nanosecond pump pulses.

Year-round decorative lights with time-multiplexed illumination of interleaved sets of color-controllable leds

A decorative lighting apparatus provides user-selectable color schemes corresponding to several holidays and other occasions for year-round use. In one illustrative example, the decorative lighting apparatus includes control circuitry which has a plurality of color-control outputs for coupling to color-control terminals of each one of a plurality of color-controllable lights along a decorative light strand. The control circuitry is operative to illuminate the color-controllable lights with any given color scheme by repeatedly time-multiplexing color-control signals at the color-control outputs to different interleaved sets of color-controllable lights along the decorative light strand. Each color-controllable light is a Red-Green-Blue (RGB) Light-Emitting Diode (LED). Preferably, the time-multiplexing rate is sufficient such that the RGB LEDs appear to be simultaneously illuminated along the strand (e.g. 32 Hertz or greater). Advantageously, this low-cost implementation reduces the number of wires required along the decorative light strand without sacrificing versatility.

New, hybrid vacuum electronic devices are proposed, in which the electrons are extracted from the nanotube into vacuum. Each nanotube is either placed on the cathode electrode individually or grown normally to the cathode plane. Arrays of the nanotubes are also considered to multiply the output current. Two- and three-terminal device configurations are discussed. In all the cases considered, the device designs are such that both input and output capacitances are extremely low, while the efficiency of the electron extraction into vacuum is very high, so that the estimated operational frequencies are expected to be in a tera-hertz range. New vacuum triode structure with ballistic electron propagation along the nanotube is also considered.

Double-pulse phase sensitive OTDR (optical time-domain reflectometer) integrated with weak reflection grating, and method for double-pulse phase sensitive OTDR

The invention discloses a double-pulse phase sensitive OTDR (optical time-domain reflectometer) integrated with a weak reflection grating, and the OTDR comprises a narrow-pulse laser, a light modulator, a circulator, a data collection device, an avalanche detector, a weak reflection grating array, a sensing optical fiber, and a pulse signal generator. The invention also discloses a vibration measurement method for the OTDR. The OTDR employs a mode of integrating with the weak reflection grating, and improves the signal to noise ratio of a system. Through employing a double-pulse detection method, the OTDR solves a problem that most of grating sensing is just sensitive to the position event of a grating, and is enabled to be sensitive to all events of the sensing fiber along a line. Because the signal to noise ratio of the system is very high, the OTDR can measure the high-frequency vibration of limit frequency under the limiting of the length of the sensing fiber, and also can measure the low-frequency vibration (less than 10 hertz).
