A liquid metal evaporation source for use in Molecular Beam Epitaxy and related metal vacuum deposition techniques. An evaporator is maintained at a high temperature to evaporate a liquid metal, a reservoir for holding the liquid metal source is maintained at a temperature above the melting point of the metal but below the temperature in the evaporator, and a hollow transport tube connecting the evaporator and reservoir is maintained at a temperature between these temperatures. The reservoir is in the shape of a hollow cylinder with a close-fitting cylindrical piston which is used to force the liquid metal through the hollow transport tube into the evaporator. The liquid metal will not flow past the piston seal if a suitably small gap is formed between the piston and the reservoir walls wherein the surface tension of the liquid metal will exceed its hydrostatic pressure against the piston thus forming a leak-tight seal.

An electrical connector can be fitted with either an electric wire cover (40) or a component installation cover (30), the choice of cover corresponding to the presence or absence of an electrical component (39) in the corresponding connector housing. Enhanced Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) functionality, including programmable digital domain modulators and demodulators for dynamic channel assignment, is incorporated into Fiber Nodes (FNs) or mini Fiber Nodes (mFNs), yielding enhanced Fiber Nodes (eFNs). These eFns distribute CMTS functionality deep into Hybrid-Fiber-Coax Networks (HFCN) rather than centralizing the CMTS functions within a single location. Moving the cable modem terminations closer to the subscribers shortens the analog RF paths required to support cable modems. Communication of both subscriber data and CMTS control data is performed over Ethernet-compatible packet networks between the field-based CMTSs and an upstream facility (e.g., the Head End), which includes an Internet gateway. Packet data for multiple subscriber cable modems is easily compressed and merged over common network paths, reducing cabling plant complexity and increasing bandwidth utilization. This approach dramatically reduces the infrastructure cost per cable modem. Distributing CMTS functionality among multiple eFNs also reduces demands on already stretched resources at the Head End for space, power, and HVAC. For HFCN channels containing signals with modulation or encoding schemes that are unknown or best processed upstream, the invention also provides for tunneling their spectrum over the same packet network as used for the cable modem data. The channels to he tunneled are isolated using digital receivers, translated to baseband, their data framed, merged with cable modem subscriber data, and transmitted over the packet network. Upstream, the framed channel data is parsed and the original channel spectrum reconstructed to permit information recovery.

The present invention provides a method for the preparation of steel sheets to be fabricated into a welded steel blank. The method includes procuring at least one pre-coated first steel sheet and one pre-coated second steel sheet, made up of a steel substrate and a pre-coating made up of an intermetallic alloy layer in contact with the steel substrate, topped by a layer of aluminum metal or aluminum alloy or aluminum-based alloy, the first sheet having a principal face, an opposite principal face, and at least one secondary face, the second sheet having a principal face, an opposite principal face and at least one secondary face, positioning the first and second sheets, leaving a gap of between 0.02 and 2 mm between the secondary faces and facing each other, the mating of the first and second sheets defining a median plane perpendicular to the principal faces of the first sheet and the second sheet, then removing the layers of metal alloy by melting and vaporization simultaneously on the principal faces, in a peripheral zone of the sheets, the peripheral zones being the zones of the principal faces closest in relation to the median plane located one on either side of it.

An enhanced mechanism for via stub elimination in printed wiring boards (PWBs) and other substrates employs laser resin activation to provide selective via plating. In one embodiment, the resin used in insulator layers of the PWB contains spinel-based non-conductive metal oxide. Preferably, only insulator layers through which vias will pass contain the metal oxide. Those layers are registered and laser irradiated at via formation locations to break down the metal oxide and release metal nuclei. Once these layers are irradiated, all layers of the PWB or subcomposite are laid up and laminated. The resulting composite or subcomposite is subsequently drilled through and subjected to conventional PWB fabrication processes prior to electroless copper plating and subsequent copper electroplating. Because metal nuclei were released only in the via formation locations of the appropriate layers, plating occurs in the via barrels only along those layers and partially plated vias are created without stubs.

The present invention relates to a tool for shaping a workpiece. The tool has two pivotally connected arms that are stroked between open and closed positions. Each arm has a handle, an intermediate coupling portion and a working portion. One working portion has a cutting block with a face and two sidewalls that form a pair of spaced apart cutting edges. The other working portion has a pair of spaced apart ramp or wedge shaped blades with cutting edges that are aligned to shearingly engage the cutting edges of the cutting block. The tool is stroked to its open position to align the cutting block with the workpiece. The tool is then stroked to its closed position to form a pair of opposed flaps in the workpiece. The flaps form a slot having a desired width. The tool preferably includes a depth adjustment mechanism for selectively setting the tool to open to a desired intermediate position so that when the tool is aligned with the workpiece it will cut the workpiece to a desired depth.

Methods of making a fiber-containing prepregs may include drawing unsized fibers from a batch of molten glass. The method may also include applying a sizing composition to the unsized fibers to form a plurality of sized fibers, where the sizing composition includes a first polymerization agent for polymerizing caprolactam. The method may further include weaving the plurality of sized fibers into a fabric. Another step may include melting a reactive resin composition to form a melted reactive resin composition, where the reactive resin composition may include caprolactam. The melted reactive resin composition may be applied to the fabric. The method may further include heating the fabric and the melted reactive resin composition to a polymerization temperature, where the caprolactam polymerizes to form a fiber-resin amalgam including a polyamide. Another step may be to form the fiber-resin amalgam into the fiber-containing prepreg.

The invention provides a device and method for actuating electrical switches remotely. The device is removably attached to the switch and is actuated through the transfer of a user's force. The user is able to remain physically removed from the switch site obviating need for protective equipment. The device and method allow rapid, safe actuation of high-voltage or high-current carrying electrical switches or circuit breakers.

A system and method are provided for the delivery of perishable products such as dairy products wherein the system combines a wholesale distribution network with a residential delivery network. A delivery hub receives perishable products from a distributor and stores and packages same for downstream delivery to the customers subscribing to the system. The system incorporates the use of low cost operational components and a low overhead, delivery-only storefront or facility. Additionally, two primary low cost operational components would be utilized, namely a low-cost delivery vehicle 15, such as an electric passenger sedan, and low-cost, long-lasting delivery packages 16, such as iceless cooler cases. The cooler cases are preferably provided as iceless cases that incorporate a gel technology that is pre-cooled at the storefront by a refrigeration unit wherein the cases 16 and gel technology retain the low temperature for an extended cooling time for delivery.

When a pollution area is formed, the medical workers firstly close an electric respirator, start amicro oxygen tank carried in the protective clothing to supply oxygen, and communicate a one-way exhaust valve pipe opening in the protective clothing with a protective clothing one-way exhaust pipe in the channel box body to form an expiration discharge passage independent of the internal space of the sealed channel box body; then the channel system uses nitrogen as the protective gas to spray and discharge oxygen, and uses 70% -75% ethanol as the disinfectant to atomize, spray and disinfect; and finally, the nitrogen is used for spraying and drying, and the sprayed nitrogen and ethanol are synchronously recycled, so that the medical care channel provides support equipment guarantee for improving the safety, comfort and convenience of the medical workers wearing the protective clothing inhospitals.

The invention provides a composite plate assembly, which comprises a first composite plate, a second composite plate capable of being pressed to adhere to and integrally buckled with the first composite plate, and a buckling unit.
