Three Dimensional Mapping Display System for Diagnostic Ultrasound Machines

An automated three dimensional mapping and display system for a diagnostic ultrasound system is presented. According to the invention, ultrasound probe position registration is automated, the position of each pixel in the ultrasound image in reference to selected anatomical references is calculated, and specified information is stored on command. The system, during real time ultrasound scanning, enables the ultrasound probe position and orientation to be continuously displayed over a body or body part diagram, thereby facilitating scanning and images interpretation of stored information. The system can then record single or multiple ultrasound free hand two-dimensional (also “2D”) frames in a video sequence (clip) or cine loop wherein multiple 2D frames of one or more video sequences corresponding to a scanned volume can be reconstructed in three-dimensional (also “3D”) volume images corresponding to the scanned region, using known 3D reconstruction algorithms. In later examinations, the exact location and position of the transducer can be recreated along three dimensional or two dimensional axis points enabling known targets to be viewed from an exact, known position.

Means and method for a liquid metal evaporation source with integral level sensor and external reservoir

A liquid metal evaporation source for use in Molecular Beam Epitaxy and related metal vacuum deposition techniques. An evaporator is maintained at a high temperature to evaporate a liquid metal, a reservoir for holding the liquid metal source is maintained at a temperature above the melting point of the metal but below the temperature in the evaporator, and a hollow transport tube connecting the evaporator and reservoir is maintained at a temperature between these temperatures. The reservoir is in the shape of a hollow cylinder with a close-fitting cylindrical piston which is used to force the liquid metal through the hollow transport tube into the evaporator. The liquid metal will not flow past the piston seal if a suitably small gap is formed between the piston and the reservoir walls wherein the surface tension of the liquid metal will exceed its hydrostatic pressure against the piston thus forming a leak-tight seal.

The methods may include the steps of providing a plurality of fibers, and applying a reactive resin composition to the plurality of fibers to make a mixture of the plurality of fibers and the resin composition. The reactive resin composition may include at least one of monomers and oligomers capable of polymerizing into a polymerized resin matrix. The mixture may be heated to a polymerization temperature where the monomers, oligomers, or both polymerize to form a fiber-resin amalgam that includes the polymerized resin matrix. The fiber-resin amalgam may be formed into the fiber-containing prepreg. Also described are methods of forming a fiber-reinforced composite that includes the prepreg.

Enhanced fiber nodes with cmts capability

Enhanced Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) functionality, including programmable digital domain modulators and demodulators for dynamic channel assignment, is incorporated into Fiber Nodes (FNs) or mini Fiber Nodes (mFNs), yielding enhanced Fiber Nodes (eFNs). These eFns distribute CMTS functionality deep into Hybrid-Fiber-Coax Networks (HFCN) rather than centralizing the CMTS functions within a single location. Moving the cable modem terminations closer to the subscribers shortens the analog RF paths required to support cable modems. Communication of both subscriber data and CMTS control data is performed over Ethernet-compatible packet networks between the field-based CMTSs and an upstream facility (e.g., the Head End), which includes an Internet gateway. Packet data for multiple subscriber cable modems is easily compressed and merged over common network paths, reducing cabling plant complexity and increasing bandwidth utilization. This approach dramatically reduces the infrastructure cost per cable modem. Distributing CMTS functionality among multiple eFNs also reduces demands on already stretched resources at the Head End for space, power, and HVAC. For HFCN channels containing signals with modulation or encoding schemes that are unknown or best processed upstream, the invention also provides for tunneling their spectrum over the same packet network as used for the cable modem data. The channels to he tunneled are isolated using digital receivers, translated to baseband, their data framed, merged with cable modem subscriber data, and transmitted over the packet network. Upstream, the framed channel data is parsed and the original channel spectrum reconstructed to permit information recovery.

The present invention provides a method for the preparation of steel sheets to be fabricated into a welded steel blank. The method includes procuring at least one pre-coated first steel sheet and one pre-coated second steel sheet, made up of a steel substrate and a pre-coating made up of an intermetallic alloy layer in contact with the steel substrate, topped by a layer of aluminum metal or aluminum alloy or aluminum-based alloy, the first sheet having a principal face, an opposite principal face, and at least one secondary face, the second sheet having a principal face, an opposite principal face and at least one secondary face, positioning the first and second sheets, leaving a gap of between 0.02 and 2 mm between the secondary faces and facing each other, the mating of the first and second sheets defining a median plane perpendicular to the principal faces of the first sheet and the second sheet, then removing the layers of metal alloy by melting and vaporization simultaneously on the principal faces, in a peripheral zone of the sheets, the peripheral zones being the zones of the principal faces closest in relation to the median plane located one on either side of it.

Laser Resin Activation to Provide Selective Via Plating for Via Stub Elimination

An enhanced mechanism for via stub elimination in printed wiring boards (PWBs) and other substrates employs laser resin activation to provide selective via plating. In one embodiment, the resin used in insulator layers of the PWB contains spinel-based non-conductive metal oxide. Preferably, only insulator layers through which vias will pass contain the metal oxide. Those layers are registered and laser irradiated at via formation locations to break down the metal oxide and release metal nuclei. Once these layers are irradiated, all layers of the PWB or subcomposite are laid up and laminated. The resulting composite or subcomposite is subsequently drilled through and subjected to conventional PWB fabrication processes prior to electroless copper plating and subsequent copper electroplating. Because metal nuclei were released only in the via formation locations of the appropriate layers, plating occurs in the via barrels only along those layers and partially plated vias are created without stubs.

Tool for shaping a workpiece

The present invention relates to a tool for shaping a workpiece. The tool has two pivotally connected arms that are stroked between open and closed positions. Each arm has a handle, an intermediate coupling portion and a working portion. One working portion has a cutting block with a face and two sidewalls that form a pair of spaced apart cutting edges. The other working portion has a pair of spaced apart ramp or wedge shaped blades with cutting edges that are aligned to shearingly engage the cutting edges of the cutting block. The tool is stroked to its open position to align the cutting block with the workpiece. The tool is then stroked to its closed position to form a pair of opposed flaps in the workpiece. The flaps form a slot having a desired width. The tool preferably includes a depth adjustment mechanism for selectively setting the tool to open to a desired intermediate position so that when the tool is aligned with the workpiece it will cut the workpiece to a desired depth.

Method for via stub elimination

An enhanced mechanism is disclosed for via stub elimination in printed wiring boards (PWBs) and other substrates. In one embodiment, the substrate includes a plurality of insulator layers and internal conductive traces. First and second through-holes extend completely through the substrate and respectively pass through first and second ones of the internal conductive traces, which are at different depths within the substrate. Photolithographic techniques are used to generate plated-through-hole (PTH) plugs of controlled, variable depth in the through-holes before first and second conductive vias are respectively plated onto the first and second through-holes. The depth of these PTH plugs is controlled (e.g., using a photomask and / or variable laser power) to prevent the first and second conductive vias from extending substantially beyond the first and second internal conductive traces, respectively, and thereby prevent via stubs from being formed in the first place. This advantageously eliminates the costly and time consuming process of via stub backdrilling.
