Snow guard for roofs

InactiveUS20070245636A1Quickly and easily liftedSnow trapsEavesEngineering
The snow guard for roofs includes a plurality of slotted brackets, which are permanently installed atop the roof structure. A snow fence is removably installed in the slots of the brackets, permitting the user to remove the fence as needed for the deliberate removal of snow from the roof in a safe and predetermined manner. The slots of the brackets extend only partially toward the bottoms of the brackets, thus placing the lower edge of the snow fence elevated above the underlying roof structure. This provides clearance between the snow fence and any strengthening ribs or ridges formed in the roof covering, as are typically provided in sheet metal covered roofs. The brackets are preferably attached along the eaves of the roof outboard of the wall structure to preclude leakage through the mounting holes and water damage to the interior of the structure.

Method and apparatus for treating animal waste and wastewater

Novel methods and apparatuses are disclosed for the treatment of wastewater to reduce, often associated, offensive odors. Irrigation of oxygenated liquid on top of a permeable cover effectively creates an aerobic treatment zone at the top of the lagoon whereby odorous gases being produced anaerobically below the cover are metabolized within this zone before being released to the atmosphere. This same system also serves to increase evaporation from the overall waste handling system therefore substantially reducing or eliminating the need for land application of treated wastewater.

Dry land erosion control using photosynthetic nitrogen-fixing microorganisms

In mesic environments, erosion control measures usually employ the establishment of vegetative cover by vascular plants in order to hold the soil in place. The current art often includes the application of seeds, chemical fertilizers, tackifiers, and mulches to promote the growth of vascular plants. However, arid environments so not support dense vegetative cover, but are instead dominated by photosynthetic microorganisms, primarily cyanobacteria and lichens. The cyanobacteria not only hold the soil in place, but also are the primary source of fixed nitrogen in arid environments. Disclosed herein, is a description of an apparatus and methods for the production and preservation of a photobiofertilizer as a means for repairing disturbed arid soils.
