An image scanner includes a light source (2), an imaging optics system (1), an imaging element section (41), a memory (5), and a processor unit (6). The imaging optics system is an optics system for collecting scattered light reflected on an object being imaged to image such collected light as a picture image, and has a plurality of cells (11) and the like which are arranged plurally in a main scanning direction (211) as independent imaging optics systems respectively and form a telecentric optics system at a manuscript side, while arranging the cells in two lines in a sub-scanning direction (212). Each cell in a respective line is arranged in a zigzag pattern in the main scanning direction such that imaged pictures can be complemented between each cell in the sub-scanning direction. The imaging element section is arranged corresponding to each of the cells. The processor unit restores the image information stored on the memory to the picture images and synthesizes those picture images to create a manuscript image.
